Earning a certificate in TESOL will allow you to differentiate yourself from other applicants with similar credentials and will allow you to handle your classroom better if you’ve never taught before.

In all honesty, a TEFL is not needed if you are trained and expect to work in an international school (where your students are good at speaking English). However, you can register for a TEFL course for virtually all other positions–especially when you don’t have previous teaching experiences with students who are not native speakers.

The non-native English classroom is a TEFL, CELTA and TESOL. A reputable TEFL business not only tests English spelling and grammar rules but also teaches you how to: build curricula if you’ve never done so before, use games to make it easy to teach vocabulary by action (TPR) stop such cultural false moves in Thai schools.

Work Permits

Some of the rewards of teaching overseas in a structured system are to take care of your visa and work permit requirements for you. Almost every professor is an enemy.

Private schools

Private schools have rates that are marginally higher than government schools. We favor candidates with previous classroom experience, but without or without a degree in teaching it is possible to be working. You can be able to teach other subjects other than English quite small. There are typically a small number of international teachers (over 10 people).

Universities

Whether you choose to teach English or prefer to educate adults, this is the best option. The salary is typically not that good, but you have relatively low hours a week, and you have more time to do. Foreign teachers may be available at the university to teach Specific or specialized subjects, not just English.

Language centres

Such schools are employed all year round as they usually have short courses for new students. The language centres, usually during standard 9 to 5 hours, provide basic wages and schedules. The disadvantage only people can pay for the licenses and job permits.

So while high speed trains may seem like the transportation of the future, and they certainly are, they are also here right now and have even been around for quite a while.

The first fast trains go all the way back to 1934 and the age of steam when a Burlington Railroad streamliner broke the one hundred mile per hour barrier. But an electric train in Germany had actually accomplished the feat thirty years prior to that.

Modern High Speed Rail, often called Bullet Trains, now runs all across the globe routinely achieving the one hundred mile per hour mark and in fact often doubling that.

Yet there is no set definition of “high speed” when it comes to trains.

In the United States it is defined as service that can be reasonably expected to reach sustained speeds of more than 125 miles per hour, while “very high speed rail” refers to trains running on special dedicated tracks at speeds of over 150 mph.

A few years ago we had the chance to ride the fastest one on Earth, the Maglev in Shanghai, which commonly reaches two hundred and fifty miles per hour on its run from the city to the airport, but has topped three hundred on test runs.

While it does not run on rails in the traditional sense, it is definitely considered high speed rail. The Maglev, as the name indicates, actually floats, or levitates, on a magnetic field. Hence the name, Mag-Lev.

We rode it just for fun, but high speed trains are also a great way to travel and offer several advantages to some other forms of transportation.

We think that the best of these benefits is the convenience of leaving and arriving in the center of the city as opposed to way out on the outskirts of town at the typical airport.

With Rail service there are no more stress-filled rides to the airport, no arriving two hours ahead of your flight, and no long lines for security, which can save so much time that it is almost like getting an extra day of vacation.

This means that for any trip of under four hundred miles you will save time, and certainly aggravation by riding the rails.

Another big plus is that trains almost never get delayed by bad weather, so there are seldom delays and cancellations to disrupt the journey. That is certainly something to think about, especially when travelling over the holiday season.

But there are other less obvious advantages as well, not the least of which is comfort. It is nice to arrive at your destination relaxed and refreshed. Extra room, think legs not being crushed by the seat in front of you, certainly helps with that.

There is also room to move about the train, stretch your legs, and even have a decent meal or snack while travelling.

Another big plus is the reduced impact on the environment. The emissions produced while travelling by train can be up to 90% lower than when flying. Rail travel is often even more fuel efficient than driving your car.

The network of these super-fast railways has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few decades, especially in Europe and Asia. There are now well over five thousand miles of high speed track across Europe, and even more throughout Eastern Asia as Japan, China, South Korea, and Taiwan continue to add to their networks.

America may have been a little late to the party, but the plans are in place to significantly increase the availability of high speed trains in the near future.

All of this adds up to a better way to get from here to there, saving time, stress, and energy.

Generally, 99% of you reading this won’t have to worry about getting a visa because your trip will be within the 6-month range.

On that note, it’s fair to say that you don’t have to go through loads of complex immigration or visa applications when journeying to the UK for a short vacation. Again, this is one of the reasons it’s become a popular destination for families in the US. It’s easy to get to, and there are few things to stress over while planning your trip. The Beanpole

When a twenty-two-year-old beanpole bass player with four years on the road under his belt, and all of the happy hedonism that goes along with that, meets an innocent eighteen-year-old Valley Girl who sneaked into a bar, the ensuing romance is likely to have a shelf life of exactly one night. But somehow that didn’t happen.

Even with the eagle-eyed clarity of hindsight, we can’t pinpoint the exact reason. It could be that we were all Shakespearean star-crossed. Could be we were both ready for a big change in our lives and just happened to collide. Could be we were just too dumb to know the odds; we certainly didn’t set out to defy them.

We are inclined to believe a fourth choice—all of the above. The one-night stand was going on in the next room with the roommate and the keyboard player while we fell into friendship instead of fake, temporary love.

But the road beckoned, and the band had to be back in Nashville, so that was that. Just two ships passing in the night. No one would ever know what might have been.

But that wasn’t that. Through the magic of pen, paper, envelopes, and stamps, they kept in touch. The Beanpole wrote to his new blue-eyed beach baby friend because something told him that couldn’t be that. A voice was whispering in her ear too, so The Valley Girl wrote back.

Before long, an old-fashioned, long-distance romance developed, almost entirely through the US mail. She says she fell in love through those letters. The Beanpole was already there when he started writing.

A few months later, fate—and a good bit of specific action seeking a band working on the West Coast—brought The Beanpole back to California for a face-to-face reunion. With this open-ended employment in the Golden State, young love had time to take its course.

Our story took a less fairy tale–like turn from there. The gig fell apart. What followed was a two thousand mile trek back to Music City in a $200 land barge named The Sharkmobile that had no reverse and no air conditioning, then a brief cohabitation and a “We ought to get married,” “Okay,” engagement. The next thing we knew, we were in the middle of a folding chair–bedecked wedding in a tiny, windowless, tile-floored church basement. Not exactly the groundwork for happily-ever-after.

The Beanpole was a bit nervous!

The odds of any marriage reaching ever-after are about fifty-fifty at best. Add to that a teenage bride and a road musician groom, then multiply that by being dead broke, and Veronica and I certainly seemed doomed. Good thing no one told us.

Before long we were calling our parents from a pay phone (our home phone had been shut off due to lack of funds) to tell them that they were about to become grandparents. I have often wondered what they must have been thinking.

Back when that beanpole bass player met The Valley Girl’s father, right before they ran off together, I remember being intrigued by the lack of any shotguns involved. But then, her dad did have an old hippie vibe about him. Old? He was a lot younger than we are now.

Even meeting my future mother-in-law went well. My new love wasn’t living at home, so I guess I wasn’t officially robbing the cradle, but still I expected to get grilled. Didn’t happen; Mom took right to me. Her stepfather didn’t say much at all.

By the time we were expecting their first grandchild, I had won over Stepdad, and we were joking that Mom liked me better than her own daughter.

As for us, few things can motivate reasonable human beings like the prospect of parenthood. We went with stunning velocity from laying around the love nest to up off our asses. Suddenly we were responsible for a life other than our own. We began to form tangible long-term goals.

In time, two more little ones arrived, and we learned that busting butt is what parents do. Find a way. A mother of three could start a company in her home because she learned how to make websites before most people had even heard of the Internet. A dad could successfully navigate a path in an occupation that regularly leaves the crushed carcasses of marriages and families in its wake.

Life’s twists and turns took us from Nashville to the Virgin Islands, always in search of the best situation for our family. In general, we met our goals but realized that they revolved around getting the kids raised and started on their own lives.

That is the short story of how, after twenty-some-odd years, we found ourselves living on a tropical island in the Caribbean about to become childless again, and wondering what to do.

The Spawn of the GypsyNesters

We didn’t have a clue, but somewhere in the recesses of our brains we must have known that the time had come to do something just for us.

I know that sounds selfish, but any parent knows that once the kids arrive, there’s not a lot of room left for the “us” in a couple.

And our time arrived way ahead of schedule. Let’s just say that Veronica and I prove that even the best forms of birth control are only 99 percent effective, but in hindsight we wouldn’t have had it any other way.

We had the stamina to survive three little ones back then, and now they’re full-grown and we’re still young enough to enjoy our new life together.

That was our answer. That was what to do. Rediscover that pre-kid couple who, thirty years ago, didn’t have enough time together. Because now, we had all the time in the world…
