How Can I Possibly Be Old Enough for AARP?

It’s an American coming-of-a-certain-age rite of passage. You turn fifty and you join AARP, right?

For me, it was easy – I’m married to a man five years older than me. The blow of my aging milestones are always softened because David paves the way for me – he shoots through them kicking and screaming so I can glide into them gracefully knowing that it’s not the end of the world (until I look in the mirror and realize that I don’t quite match up to the image I have of myself in my mind!).

Riding on David’s coattails, I’ve been… CONTINUE READING > >

Green Gables: Bringing My Childhood Imagination to Life

There was something about these girls’ feistiness and spirit that sparked “the scope of my imagination” – a bookwormish preteen girl who spent hour upon hour with her nose stuck in the pages of… CONTINUE READING >>

About a month ago, a thought popped into my head. What ever happened to Tamera? Where did that gangly, sweet and truly unique little girl with the pig tails and big glasses that I went to Junior High with end up? What did she become?

We were the original Valley Girls. We hung out with boys who skateboarded, went to the beach every weekend and said “Like” and “You know” like, way too much, you know? I wonder if Tamera finds it ironic, as I do, when she hears today’s college girls speaking like this, while most of us old school Valley Girls don’t anymore? Actually, I’ve managed to completely kill off the “likes,” but the “you knows” keep sneaking in… CONTINUE READING >>

Single & Over 50? Why the Heck Would You Live Alone? I’d be too…

I’m not gonna lie and pretend that I haven’t thought about what I would do if David kicked the bucket – we participate in way too many crazy, fear-conquering shenanigans so, yes, the notion has passed through my head.

I know I wouldn’t want to live alone if I were to become suddenly single.

I’d be lonely, wouldn’t be able to afford to travel as I’d want need to, and I’d certainly not want to do a reverse boomerang and move in with… CONTINUE READING >>
