Risking shameless self-promotion, we bring you this story of how the cover to our book GOING GYPSY came to be.

Going Gypsy is now available!

We’ll talk about that in a minute, but first I want to tell you the story about the cover.

A few days after we heard from Skyhorse Publishing that they wanted to publish our book, we were still (and still are) pinching ourselves as we boarded a plane to Europe. It was pretty much all I could think worry about.

An idea for our book cover popped into my head as I was “sleeping” 30,000 feet above the Arctic (quotes are used as I was on a plane and real sleep isn’t possible). You know how the drill:

Trying to "sleep" on an airplane
Reenactment: In reality I was wedged in a middle seat, not luxuriously sprawled as these photos depict!

Excited that my thought-tumbling/worrying had worked in my favor for a change, I grabbed what was available — a cocktail napkin and a Sharpie — and painstakingly drew a stick-figure rendition of what had been knocking around in my jangled head.

Excited, I woke David (who was also “sleeping” and in no mood for my shenanigans) and presented my masterpiece:

Napkin Drawing for the book cover of Going Gypsy: One Couple's Adventure from Empty Nest to No Nest at All
New career as a stick artist, perhaps?

David’s response?

“It looks like I’m flipping you off.”

Followed by, “Don’t you ever show that to anyone.

I sulked, stuffed it in my backpack, and went back to “sleep.”

Fast-forward a fortnight and we’re in NYC to spend the holidays with The Spawn.

While there, we visited Skyhorse’s Manhattan offices for the first time. In the skyscraper’s elevator — jet-lagged out of our brains — we were giddy with the surrealness of it all. Prior to this meeting, everything had been handled via e-mail and, though we had already formed a good working relationship with our editor, the fabulous Jenny Pierson, we had never met face-to-face.

Jenny greeted us at the elevator, led us to her office, and, after some getting-to-know-you-in-person niceties, she asked us if we had thought about the book’s cover.

I could feel David shooting darts at me as I said, “Actually, yes.”

Whipping my fantastically awful doodle from where it had been getting crumpled in my backpack, I could see David scanning the room and looking for the nearest exit out of the corner of my eye.

Poor guy, this was not how he had envisioned our first meeting with our editor — at all. We were (still are) in that we-can’t-believe-we’re-actually-going-to-have-our-book-published phase, and was it too much to ask his cowriter not to act like a doofus? Magical thinking at its finest.

Visions of Jenny bolting out of her office whilst screaming danced through his head.

Instead, she asked to keep it. I was convinced she actually liked it and was pretty proud of myself as an artist. It’s kind of Picassoesque, right? My delusions of grandeur were flowing like water down a river of whimsy.

By the next morning, David had me convinced that Jenny had shown it around the office and it was destined to become Skyhorse’s latest viral e-mail joke (not that Jenny — or anyone else — at Skyhorse would actually do that, but we were paranoid enough to think it, nonetheless).

Thankfully, minutes later, we received this from Jenny:

You made my designer friend’s day today when I told her I wanted her to make the cover look like “this” and showed her the napkin. We love it.

She may have saved my marriage of thirty-one years with that little note.

We booked a photo shoot immediately (huge thanks to über-photographer Nick Coleman for spending Christmas Eve shooting us and for picking up on the concept right away — I had left the now-infamous napkin with Jenny and couldn’t redraw it in its proper glory for the life of me).

In order to get the correct angle for the shot, the incredibly nimble Nick needed to climb to the top of a twenty-foot ladder and wedge himself up against the ceiling of his studio. This made it easy for me to come up with the look of fear needed on my end — I was petrified Nick was going to fall off the ladder and meet his demise!

A few months later, while we were in Costa Rica, we received this from Skyhorse:

Book cover for Going Gypsy: One Couple's Adventure from Empty Nest to No Nest at All
HUGE thanks to Brian Peterson for making my doodle a reality. You rock, sir!

You should have seen us happy dancing around like idiots in our hotel room! We LOVED it!

But, wait, there’s more!

Three months later, as we were visiting family in the States, we received yet another surprise from Skyhorse – we had no idea this was coming!

We are so honored that the incredibly talented Danielle Ceccolini agreed to lend her original work to our book jacket – look what she created for us:

Book Cover for Going Gypsy: One Couple's Adventure frome Empty Nest to No Nest at All!
Share our happiness and

I, no we, feel beyond blessed that someone of Ms. Ceccolini’s caliber could take our goofy little sleep-deprived, airplane-napkin doodle and turn it into an incredible work of art!

Online gambling practices have taken the world by storm. The rapid growth seems to be overtaking the land-based gambling institutions. This online casino growth is expected to accelerate in the time to come.

As technology advances, more and more people choose to resort to online gambling. There are many reasons why players are turning to an online casino to play penny slots free or other gambling games instead of the traditional land-based casinos. Let’s take a quick look at a few of them.

Ensures More Convenience

One of the primary reasons players are turning to online gambling is convenience. When you gamble online, you don’t have to put on your suit or a black dress and drive to the casino to experience the thrill. With this, you will be able to gamble from the comfort of your home, right from your couch. No matter what the time is, you can log into your favourite online casino platform and start playing. Another thing that makes gambling online convenient is, you can play from your desktop, laptop, smartphone, or tablet.

Gambling online is simple and straightforward. You just have to choose a good online casino like casinonutansvensklicens.net. But make sure that you have an internet connection on your device. There’s no need to worry about the time or how you will get back home.

Keeps Players in Control

Even though gambling involves chance, you should be in control of what you are playing and how much money you are risking. In fact, you can control every aspect of gambling except for the outcome.

So, you can choose when to stop playing. When you are gambling online, you can just walk away when you feel. It might appear to be unusual that a game based on luck will make people feel this way. However, the feeling of control can be thrilling for players. This is the reason they enjoy gambling online.

Variety of Games

On an online gambling platform, players will get to try out several games. The wide array of titles that a platform offers gives punters the power of choice. You will find slots, blackjack, roulette, baccarat, and poker. If you love playing slots, you will find plenty of them in an online casino. In fact, new games are added to their gaming collection every day. But if you love card games, you can try out blackjack or poker. So, there is something for all players out there.

Erica Walter praises online casinos and their rich game offerings.

“An extensive game collection is striking. No land-based casino can offer such a number of games.”

Bonus, Promotions, and Rewards

Online casinos will reward you with amazing bonus and promotional offers. As soon as you sign up for a gambling site, you are greeted with a Welcome Bonus. However, this is not all; you can win weekly bonuses, VIP cashback, and birthday bonuses. So, both new and existing customers will get to win bonuses. Unlike land-based gambling sites, online casinos provide these bonuses that increase your bankroll and let you play for a longer time on the gambling site.

Anonymous and Fast

Another great advantage of online gambling is that it lets you play anonymously. Also, the gambling process is pretty fast. You can gamble online by sitting on your favourite chair. Nobody will get to understand that you are indulging in gambling activity, unlike land-based casinos. There are many casino authorities hovering over your head if you indulge in some strategic planning to win the game.

Offers Frequent Jackpot Prizes

Another factor that plays a major role in making players turn to online gambling is money. Sure, you can win jackpot prizes in a land-based casino, but when you gamble online, you can win jackpots more frequently. Apart from the jackpots, there are other bigger prizes to be won in an online casino.

High and Low Table Limits

Another reason why gambling online is turning out to be more popular is it offers high and low table limits. If you are gambling with a small budget, you don’t have to worry. There are games with low betting limits. However, there are also games with high betting limits. So, whether you are a high-roller or a low-roller, you will find your preferred games on the online gambling platform.

Good Payout

There are several casinos over the internet. Fierce competition means you can get to enjoy a high payout ratio. In certain this can be about 95% or higher. Hence, the payout ratio for online casinos is much higher than a brick-and-mortar casino.

These are reasons more, and more players are playing online. Hence, there is no need to suppress your desire to play online anymore. You can place your bets on different casino games without leaving your home. Moreover, if you want, you can play on the go. Casinos use modern encryption technology. So, you don’t have to worry about malware or hackers.

Camping Dangers You Need To Be Aware Of

There’s something about a camping trip that is good for the soul. The scenery, the wide-open spaces, and the lack of modern distractions can evoke feelings of happiness and being free. Liberated from the stresses and trappings of our home lives, we can rest, relax, and enjoy our camping adventure.

Well, that’s the ideal situation.

Unfortunately, a camping trip can also be hazardous, as there are dangers that could hinder our time away. We will list some of them below so take heed of each one to protect yourself and your fellow campers.

#1: The weather

Before you set off on your camping adventure always check the weather forecast. You don’t want to be caught in a flood, hurricane, or snowstorm, so delay your travels if you hear of adverse weather conditions. You should also be mindful of the sun. A heatwave could cause all kinds of problems, including sunburn and dehydration, so delay your camping trip when the temperatures are raging hot.

Of course, the weather can change suddenly, and without warning, so even when you think it’s safe, take precautions. Bring warm clothing and extra bedding to counter the cold and make sure your tent is waterproof to counter the rain. For sunny days, remember to bring suncream and long-sleeved clothing too. Shelter from the weather will also be important, be it wet or blisteringly hot, so consider a camping gazebo. This clear and detailed best camping gazebos countdown will help you with your buying decision.

#2: Food poisoning

If you’re planning to use a barbecue or a camping stove on your trip, you should practice beforehand. You don’t want to subject yourself or anybody else to food poisoning when you’re away, so have a trial run and watch tutorials online. Of course, this is assuming you’re cooking meat. There are lots of other things you can eat when you’re away, including sandwiches and tinned soups, so play it safe if you’re not confident about your cooking ability. These stress-free food ideas should be useful too.

#3: The local wildlife

It’s always best to camp in areas that have been designated ‘safe,’ so when possible, use established campgrounds instead of setting yourself up in the middle of nowhere. But if you do decide to camp off the beaten path, commit to research first. After all, you don’t want to set up camp where there is the risk of snakes, bears, and other dangerous wildlife.

Of course, there will always be the risk of ticks, mosquitos, and other disease-carrying insects, no matter where you camp, so take precautions. Long-sleeved clothing will offer some protection, as will insect repellant. Keep the fly screen on your tent closed too and follow these other tips on keeping those pesky bugs away.

#4: Your campfire

Sitting around a campfire singing songs, telling scary stories, and toasting marshmallows, is a camping tradition, but you do need to be safe. You should set up your campfire away from your tent and other flammable materials, and you should take other safety measures as well. These campfire safety tips are a must-read so take heed. The last thing you want on your hands is a raging fire, as you won’t be the only person in danger, so take all necessary precautions.

So, don’t take any risks while you’re away! Safety is key on a camping trip, so heed the dangers we have listed, and do what you can to protect yourself and your fellow campers. When you put safety measures in place, you will be able to enjoy the benefits of your camping trip.

Artistic Expression as a Part of Art Therapy

One thing we have learned in our journey through the mental health issues that arose in our family due to the COVID pandemic is that there is more than one way to proceed with therapy. Many different approaches are available and should be explored. Over the past few months, we have talked about quite a few of these in this series of articles.

However, there is one very interesting method that we have not discussed yet, art therapy. Either in conjunction with other techniques, or by itself, the combination of art and psychology can be very effective as a treatment. This is even more pronounced with patients who may be apprehensive or have some difficulty expressing themselves verbally to a therapist.

A trained art therapist can gain much needed information from not only the actual artwork, but also by observing the symbolism contained within the art, as well as listening to the patient he or she is creating the work.

Throughout the process there will be opportunities for expressing feelings, gaining confidence, better understanding problems, and even enjoying a creative outlet in the midst of difficult times. All of this can help foster relax and reduce stress.

While almost any type of artistic approach can be incorporated into the therapy, but some of the more helpful and common pursuits are painting self-portraits or pictures of family members, sewing, creating ceramics or pottery, and making gifts.

All of these help the patient to gain confidence and improve coping skills, while allowing the therapist to analyze the symbolism within the artwork and to use the art as an opening for a conversation about the client’s problems.

Out of all these advantages, perhaps the most pronounced is stress reduction. Ideally the patient can relax and get lost in the creative process, even if it is only for a little while. There is no doubt that leaving the anxiety and troubles of day-to-day life behind has any number of advantages.

Managing stress can also lead to discovering new ways to deal with situations and finding the necessary strength to move forward with life. This can be especially helpful for those in dysfunctional families or abusive situations.

People with these in their background often have difficulty discussing those issues, which makes art therapy ideal because the patient doesn’t necessarily need to speak in order to express their feelings and anxieties.

Hopefully, some artistic people reading this may feel that art therapy could be a field of psychiatry that would be interesting to get involved in as a professional therapist. If so, BetterHelp.com has valuable information and advice that can help you make up your mind.

First and foremost, you need to have a passion for helping people. Add that to a knack for patiently listening and communicating clearly, along with a curiosity for psychology and human behavior, and you are ready to go.

Next, explore your educational opportunities and find a university that offers an Art Therapy Master’s Program. Then you can combine your artistic talent with a desire to guide people to discovering better mental health, and be on your way to an exciting new and incredibly rewarding career.

What to Wear to Painting with a Twist in Denver

When you’re going to a painting event, the first thing you may think about is your clothes. You’ll probably think that you’ll get paint splatter over that expensive shirt, but some measures can help your clothes stay stain-free. Also, you’ll have aprons to help protect your front from getting brush strokes on it. Here’s what to wear to a painting event with a twist.

Dress Casual Clothing

Sure, you may go somewhere afterward in a suit or an expensive dress, but don’t go wearing that to a sip n painting in Denver spot. Try to wear something with a colorful pattern, which can match the paints you use on the canvas.

This helps you blend everything well. Not to mention, the paint you use may be less noticeable if you spill something on your clothes. Additionally, you want to ensure that your sleeves aren’t too flowy.

You want to roll up your sleeves so that you don’t mistakenly brush around the cuffs. This way, you can wear your evening casual clothes to your favorite lounge after you’re done creating a nice piece of artwork.

Make Sure Your Items Are Machine Washable

If you’re going to a sip n painting in Denver, get rid of the silk, cashmere, or other items that need to be dry cleaned. You want to wear something that you can take off and put right in your washing machine to get rid of all the paint.

Remember, the paint environment will have a combination of acrylics, wine, and human error. This is a combination that’s waiting for an accident to happen all over your favorite shirt. It’s better to be safe than sorry when you’re using thick paint colors on sensitive garments.

Goes with the Theme

Someone may decide to have a specific theme for an event For some people, they may want to have a pajama party of their favorite characters. They can get dressed up in an easy-to-wash onesie as they watch some fun movies while painting.

Maybe it’s a funny t-shirt theme. This will add tons of comedic flair to the event and may inspire some humorous pieces. It’s a good icebreaker to help everyone get more open and creative at a paint and wine party.

Whether you’re in a more dressed-up affair or casual event, always make sure you can clean up after everything’s done.

Delta-8 THC – The New Cannabinoid in Town

This article will explain delta-8 THC, and will also give you tips for finding the best delta 8 near you or in any location to which you are traveling… CONTINUE READING >>

If you are traveling through the United States this year, you might notice that there is a new product available at smoke shops, gas stations, and alternative wellness shops – delta-8 THC. This cannabinoid has always been naturally present in trace amounts in traditional cannabis. So Baby Boomers who were cannabis enthusiasts in their youth have consumed delta 8 before. It has never been extracted and sold in its purest form, though.

This article will explain delta-8 THC, and will also give you tips for finding the best delta 8 near you or in any location to which you are traveling.

What is Delta-8 THC?

The THC we think of when we talk about THC-dominant cannabis, also known as marijuana, is actually delta-9 THC. It is the cannabinoid responsible for the psychoactive effects that can occur when was uses marijuana. This makes some people paranoid, especially in high amounts.

Back in the heyday of the Baby Boomer counterculture, the marijuana consumed during that time was much less potent than it is today. Some strains today have upwards of 20% delta-9 THC.

Delta-8 THC is still technically psychoactive, but it is said to produce more of a relaxed feeling in the body that isn’t paired with any of the mentally stimulating effects of delta-9 THC. This can make it a potentially attractive marijuana alternative for those who have retired from the strong stuff.

Delta 8 can either be extracted or synthesized. Extracting it directly from the cannabis plant can be costly since it takes a lot of biomass to produce a sellable amount of delta 8 extract. The second, and more common method of producing delta 8 is to synthesize it from pure CBD isolate. This method is more common since there is a big surplus of isolates within the market, but it is also a big reason why it is banned in some states. Some states classify it as a synthetic analog of delta-9 THC, which makes it banned under these state legislatures.

Delta 8 is typically sold in vape cartridges, but some companies are selling CBD hemp flower that have been sprayed with Delta 8 extract.

Is Delta-8 THC Legal?

If you do decide to pick up some delta 8 while you are on the road, make sure to check its legal status in all of the states along your planned travel route. These laws vary from state to state. There are currently 11 states where delta 8 is banned: Utah, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, and Rhode Island. As you can see with the case of Colorado, the legal status of delta 8 has nothing to do with the legal status of cannabis. It is banned in Colorado, yet both marijuana and hemp are legal. As mentioned above, the reason for this complexity is the fact that it is synthesized and therefore not covered under the Hemp Farm Bill of 2018.

The Hemp Farm Bill made it federally legal to grow and sell hemp, which is simply cannabis that has been bred to possess less than 0.3 % delta-9 THC. You have probably seen CBD products in stores along your travels since then, as it has exploded into a billion-dollar industry. All of these products contain cannabinoids derived from hemp. The problem with delta 8 from a legal perspective is that it is synthesized from hemp-derived CBD isolate. While this is merely copying a process that occurs naturally, the law sees it as a completely separate product from hemp.

How do I Find the Best Delta 8?

If you are in or traveling to a state where delta 8 is legal, then you might want to try some to see what all the hype is about.

Those living the nomad lifestyle won’t have the option of ordering from an online vendor, but this is typically the best option.

Luckily, many stores get their products wholesale from an online vendor. Make sure you look up the manufacturer of the product online before making your in-store purchase. Read all of the customer reviews to make sure you are not getting ripped off.

If you follow that one simple tip, you will set yourself up for a positive delta 8 experience.

Before you go, remember that delta-8 THC may have psychoactive effects. Use under your own discretion, and do not drive or operate heavy machinery after consuming.
