When you go traveling, you need to be making the best of every single experience. It’s important that you are doing what you can to get the most out of your adventure, and sometimes this means stepping out of your comfort zone a little. In this article, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the things that you can do to ensure that you have the best time traveling, so keep reading down below if you would like to find out more.

Do Those Outdoor Activities

Whether you are a particularly outdoorsy person or not, you should make time for the outdoor activities. At the very least, you will be able to say that you have done them, and that they were an experience all in themselves. It’s always good to try new things, especially things that are going to push us out of our comfort zone.

If you know that you are going to be doing some outdoor activities such as hiking, then you might want to find ways to make them more exciting. That’s not to say that they aren’t exciting already, but if it does need a little bit of a boost, at least you know how to achieve this.

Make Use Of The Evening

You should make use of the evening! A lot of the time when people go traveling, they simply make use of the daytime and then when the night comes around they get into bed, but there is so much more that could be done. You are on holiday so why not make the most of all of the time that you have got? You can sleep later in the night, but you should be exploring everything that your destination has to offer in the meantime.

For example, you might want to have a few drinks in the evening and relax somewhere. Whether you are more of a paloma can drink person or a beer person doesn’t matter, as we’re sure that you can make some new friends no matter what.

See Everything And Anything

The last thing that we’re going to say is that you should see everything and anything that you can while you are traveling. Who knows when you are going to get the chance to do this again? So, if there is anything to see or do, it’s something that you should experience. It might not even be something that you are interested in, or it might be something that you think you’re not interested in, but when you get there it’s actually pretty great. Never miss out, there’s no need!

We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the things that you should be doing in order to have fun traveling. You should never stop anyone from letting you have fun when you travel, whether this is on your own, with a partner, with family members or whatever else. You are supposed to enjoy the time that you have traveling, not waste it!

Fear Conquering & Snow Skiing

Learning to ski at my age had me worrying about things that a younger person might not have.

What if I plummet over a cliff, break my hip, and die from complications a week later? Fear Conquering

Learning to ski at my age had me worrying about things that a younger person might not have.

What if I plummet over a cliff, break my hip, and die from complications a week later?

What if I take a blow to the back of my head from one of those chair ride thingies and end up like an amnesia-riddled soap opera character?

What if I end up like Sonny Bono and that horrible tree?

What if?

But as a committed GypsyNester, it is my duty to step out of my comfort zone and go for the glory with guts AND gusto.

I continually needed to remind myself when I started “what if-ing” that the huge majority of “ifs” turn out just fine, sometimes even excellently. Besides, my affairs are in order, my kids are grown and have burden-proofed my life.

Should I take the big spill, the world would go on without me. So, by golly, I’m going for it.

I wasn’t subjected to snow while growing up in the desert so I’m ignorant in its ways. Exotic words like “packed” and “powder” were being flung about by the giddy skiers surrounding me and I found it very infectious.

So with a smile on my face, on a beautiful sunny day, I was ready to charge the mountain.

At the lodge’s rental counter, David helped me into the daunting ski equipment as if he were dressing a two-year-old, complete with runny nose.

I was horrifyingly inept.

The boots alone were very complicated buggers. They were foot prisons made of a brutal, inflexible, space-aged polymer that doesn’t exist anywhere in nature. For maximum support, the footwear apparently must be clamped down tight enough to cut off all blood flow below the knees.

My legs were getting all tingly and I couldn’t feel my feet at all.

Since that seemed to mean that I was properly booted up, David lead the way toward the slopes with our skis and poles. I basically had to relearn the art of walking in order to follow him.

Add in two pairs of pants, four layers on top, scarf, hat and gloves and my limbs stuck out like a freakin’ starfish, only less mobile. But I managed to shuffle my way across the room toward the exit and still keep my good humor intact. I was even starting to find it quite comical.

Until I got to the stairs. My feet might as well have been nailed to the floor. The boots prohibited me from mounting a single step.

I tried pulling one leg up the first step with my sweating, mittened hands. Squatting a tad, I grabbed my thigh above a bent knee and yanked. My shoulder almost sprung from its socket, but the boot remained firmly planted on the floor.

Attempting to execute a crablike maneuver, I shuffled sideways whilst doubling myself over the handrail. Great energy expense with no ascension. But, if I am one thing, that thing is resourceful. I found my method.

For the remainder of our stay, I ascended the stairs back-end first. It wasn’t pretty, but it worked.

Snowy tree

My intention was to first take a lesson, thus enabling the Colorado-raised David to get his gazelle-like self straight to the slopes without having The Old Ball and Chain literally be an old ball and chain.

Unfortunately an instructor wasn’t immediately available, so David escorted me to the Bunny Slope.

He listened to my lame jokes disguised as self-deprecation while he bestowed beginner slope gearing-up tactics upon me.

“Keep your skis sideways to the slope.”

“Keep your weight on the uphill ski.”

“Pop your boot into the binding.”

He might as well have been blithering Swiss Alpine gibberish. Time and time again I misdirected my feet and sent my skis flying. Time and time again David retrieved them. The man was a saint.

I tried to keep his pending canonization in mind as he pointed me toward a clanking contraption of spinning frozen rope dragging Gore-Tex coated three-year-olds with boards strapped to their feet up a gentle rise.

“What the hell is THAT?” He had to be kidding if he thought I was going to attach myself to that thing.

“The rope tow.” More Alpine gibberish. He looks at me as if I were one of the three-year-olds. “That’s how we go up the hill.”

Good thing I was very determined to master skiing, because the rope tow was almost as determined to kill me. These gizmos are not made for anybody with a center of gravity higher than Minnie Mouse.

It was a thing of beauty – my stiff starfish self being dragged up a slippery surface while flailing forward and back. I looked like one of those dancing inflatable men at a car dealership.

Add waving ski poles to the mix and it was gorgeous, a sight to behold.

Standing atop the mountain erroneously called a Bunny Slope, David coached me in the art of snowplowing and edge-digging before pointing me downhill.

The boots’ tightness, binding and bulkiness disappeared when put to proper use. I miraculously skied that horrifically steep and challenging Slope of the Small Hare, without wiping out.

The dreaded chair lift

After I’d done the same thing two whole times, Jules, my ski instructor, met us at the foot of the hill.

Ready to show off my new moves, I waddled across the flat expanse between us and promptly fell flat at her feet.

This did not bode well for my first lesson, the chair lift.

David and Jules discussed my abilities and potential while I flailed deliriously, trying to get back up on my skis. Had they not noticed me down here?

After what seemed like ten mortifying minutes, I was ultimately hoisted upright with assistance from both David and Jules, and I then began my slide toward the chair lift.

“Keep your knees bent. Stick out your butt. Skis must be pointed forward. Hold your poles in your outside hand.”

I opened my mouth to ask Jules what the poles were for, but after visualizing myself slipping in front of the speeding chair, knocked comatose, lifted up by the scruff of my jacket, carried fifty feet up, and then dropped to my death, I decided instead to concentrate on the task at hand.

I followed Jules’ instruction to the letter. With eyes squeezed tight, I felt a slight bang on the back of my legs, and I was up! Must be how a toddler feels when an adult comes from behind and sweeps him off his feet with no warning – both vomit-inducing and exciting.

Next thing I knew, we were at end of the line. Holding my ski poles in one hand as Jules instructed, I tipped my skis up and felt the ground come under them.

Emitting a strange squeak, I left the chair and made it down the slight incline in one piece. I came to a stop and turned to flash a triumphant grin at Jules. And fell on my butt. Jeez.

Grinning wipeouts aside, Jules decided I was ready for Jelly Bean Hill and Candy Cane Lane. Daunting stuff, those. I breezed through like a pro. I’d become Suzy Chapstick with the wind blowing through my honey blond hair – mall bangs and all.

No longer was I afraid of the Dr. Seuss-type-characters on snowboards zooming by from above. I was on fire. Jelly Bean Hill – I own you!

Having done her job, Jules handed me back into the capable hands of David. This time I was unquestionably vertical.

David, who had been skiing trails with names like Big Cajones and Black Diamond Death Bowl in my absence, urged me to try some harder slopes. The really tough ones, like the semi-dreaded Licorice Gum Drop Mountain.

I relented and, after showing off my new chair lift prowess, went to peer over the edge of the slope. Thank God my boots were so tight that my knees couldn’t buckle at the sight of the drop-off – that was one mother of a Gum Drop. I refused to budge.

David slyly changed his tactics from coddling to out-and-out mocking – until I bit my lip, closed my eyes and dug in, hoping to snowplow my way down the mountain.

Nope, too steep. Instead I turned and careened straight sideways across the slope. Not having covered this special kind of stupidity in my lessons, I did what came naturally. I freaked out.

Ridding myself of the poles, which seemed logical since I still had no clue why I’d been carrying them around all day, I laid out flailing in the snow hoping to stem the velocity of my slide.

It did, but not all that well. My full-body sprawl finally skidded me to a stop about twenty feet below my initial impact crater – and my poles.

“You lost your poles, dumbass,” was the first thing I heard. “Now I have to climb up there and get them.”

“Don’t call me dumbass, I’m trying as hard as I can,” I pouted.

Ahhhh. The Lodge.

David insisted that “dumbass” wasn’t actually included in the statement. I’m inclined to believe him.

We’ll just call it dumbass implied and leave it there.

Regardless, I was not about to let David come riding to the rescue, I was going to retrieve the poles myself.

Incidentally, it is much less problematic to return to the upright and locked position when collapsed on a steep hill, so I had that going for me.

Using my ski’s edges, my left hip and my shredded dignity, I managed to worm my way up to the orphaned poles.

I soldiered on to conquer the dastardly Gum Drop. Multiple times.

Now that I’d mastered the kiddie slopes, I felt there might be hope for me on skis. It really IS fun to zoom around on the white stuff.

That is why people do it, right? I don’t have to be fabulous to have a great time.

Maybe I’ll even stick around long enough next time to find out what the poles are for.

Detroit Knows that Some Airports are Better than Others

Over the past fifteen years our nomadic GypsyNester life has taken us all around the world, and in those travels we have been to countless airports.

Most of them were unremarkable and more or less immediately disappeared from our memories, but a few actually made a lasting impression. Detroit’s Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is one of those impressive few.

The first thing that struck us about it was the LED Tunnel that connects concourse A with B and C. This impressive walkway features nearly nine thousand feet of lighted glass panels that change constantly to correspond with a dramatic musical background.

We both vividly remember entering it for the first time after a long overseas flight and it was somehow soothing, yet invigorating at the same time. Even with the jet lag. Or maybe because of it?

We also love the beautiful fountain in the center of McNamara Terminal. The unique design was inspired by the lines on a flight map and makes a perfect spot to meet up with people so no one ever gets lost. Or maybe just make a wish and toss in a penny, or more, since the coins are collected and donated to local and national charities.

But in our opinion these are only one small part of what makes DTW a premier airport. For us to really like and remember an airport it has to have some great food options. If you have flown recently, no doubt you have noticed that on flights food is just not really much of a thing anymore. There is basically none on domestic routes, and even the international flights leave a lot to be desired when it comes to cuisine these days.

That’s one reason why we love the restaurants and food in the Detroit Airport. With everything from sushi to steaks, bistro to brew pub, gourmet to grab and go, or fast food to fancy, there are so many options to choose from.

There are also little tablets at the tables, or apps for your phone, that we love because we can select a restaurant on the touch screen, check out the menu, and then order with no waiting and have the food delivered in almost no time at all.

The vast selection of restaurants sometimes has us wishing we had more time at the airport, which means if we ever do get stuck in one of those inevitable delays we will have plenty of ways to pass the time. Now that is something we think really sets an airport apart from the rest.

But even with a close connection, we always try to at least find the time to grab a quick Coney Island. Seriously, I don’t think we could ever stop in southeast Michigan, even for a minute at the airport, and not have at least one Coney.

Of course, food isn’t the only thing that makes an airport stand out. Metropolitan Wayne County Airport also has a ton of shopping selections available. We always appreciate that for any last minute gifts or picking up those necessities that we forgot to pack.

With such a state of the art airport it is no wonder that Detroit has now become an international hub with direct, nonstop flights to many of the most popular destinations in Europe, Asia, Canada, and Mexico. Believe us when we say, it is so much easier to fly to Paris, or Rome, or Tokyo nonstop than it is making connections along the way.

Another unique feature that globe trotting GypsyNesters can love is the system they now have in place for scanning boarding passes to get directions to your departure gate. Passengers can even choose to see the information in various languages.

All of these things combine to make Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport one of our favorites anywhere in the world.

It’s almost like we wouldn’t mind having our flight delayed… well, almost.

5 Reasons to Include Romania in your Bucket List

If you’re still undecided about where to spend your holiday in 2023, here are five reasons why Romania should be on your list…

If you’re still undecided about where to spend your holiday in 2023, here are five reasons why Romania should be on your list:

1. Culture

Did you know that the Romanians are speaking a Latin language? If you visit the country, you will hear a peculiar blend of Italian, Spanish and Slavic on the streets. Because the Romanian vocabulary is 70% Latin, fundamental words should be easy to grasp if you know another Latin language.

“Eastern European Latins with a Balkan twist” is probably the best description of Romanians. Of course, the historical backdrop shaped Romania’s cultural behavioural pattern to a greater or lesser extent. The Balkan spirit is more dominant in the country’s south, where it was closer to the Ottoman Empire; the northeast is influenced by Ukrainian Slavic culture; and Transylvania, Romania’s western province, is closer to Central-Europe, as it used to belong to the Austrian-Hungarian space for centuries.

2. Nature

The country was blessed with amazingly beautiful nature.  Romania has it all: rugged mountains, rolling hills, an aquatic paradise made by one of Europe’s major rivers, the Danube, and the Black Sea coast.

Romania’s mountains are the Carpathians, a mountain range that begins in Poland and ends in Romania at the Danube gorges. They cover around 30% of the country’s land area and provide countless chances for enjoying nature and outdoor experiences.

Romania’s fauna is one of the richest and most diverse in Europe, including rare or even unique species. Romania is home to more than 60% of Europe’s bear population and is one of the continent’s last countries with wolf or lynx populations. The European bison, the continent’s biggest animal, was recently reintroduced, and stable groups were able to develop freely in the wild.

The Danube Delta, Europe’s biggest surviving natural wetland is one of the continent’s most vital ecosystems for wetland fauna. This aquatic paradise consists of a labyrinth of channels, tree-fringed lakes, extensive marshes, reed beds, islands and floodplains. Is a popular site for birdwatchers as well as foodies.

3. Food

When it comes to food, Romanians excel. There are some unwritten characteristics that can define it: the food must be delicious, filling and the portions generous. The history of the Romanian cuisine is influenced by its historical context and geographical position. Located at the crossroads between the West and the East, the traditional Romanian cuisine is an original synthesis between the Balkan and Central European.

“Mamaliga”, the corn porridge, was a staple food that became almost a celebration food. Although it is not unique to Romania, here we find it in any menu with traditional food, both as an accompaniment to a main course, and as a main course, in various combinations with cheese and meat.

Soups are part of the daily diet and include a wide variety of ingredients and combinations. The most popular but also the most controversial soup is the tripe soup, obtained from slices of beef stomach, boiled for a long time and seasoned with garlic and cream. Speaking of garlic. The Romanian garlic sauce called “mujdei” is so concentrated in garlic that it is not recommended to drink a fizzy drink after it.

A specific type of soup is called “borș”, but it is totally different from that of our Ukrainian neighbours. Romanian borscht is a normal soup to which a sour liquid called borș is added, obtained from the fermentation of cereal bran.

4. Castles and palaces

Despite the fact that Dracula is a myth, several aspects led Bram Stoker to set his renowned Dracula castle in Transylvania. One of the reasons is the presence of a castle which suited very well the idea of vampire residence. I’m referring to Bran Castle, the medieval stronghold, located at the foothills of the Carpathians, perched on an imposing rock. Bran Castle has never been the residence of a bloodthirsty figure. It was built as a border stronghold, and before being transformed into a touristic attraction, it used to be a royal residence. But that doesn’t stop hundreds of thousands of tourists to flock the castle every year, in search of thrilling memories and memorable pictures with the castle.

Bran Castle is not the only castle in Romania.  We also recommend visiting the Corvin Castle, a fairytale-like residence built by a medieval hero, John of Hunedoara, who distinguished himself as a great military leader, deafening the region from Turkish aggression.

Peles Castle is another great place to visit. It was erected by the first Romanian king starting the end of the 19th century in a gorgeous natural setting, also at the foothills of the mountains. Since its debut in 1914 it impressed its visitors with its remarkable interior design, the rich collections within and nevertheless, the original architecture which makes you think of the German alpine palace.

5. The authentic rural life

For a long time, Romania was one of Europe’s least developed countries. Although it has made significant progress, there is still evidence of discrepancies between a Western European nation and Romania. However, this condition allowed for the preservation of the authenticity of rural life, as it used to be all throughout Europe a few decades ago.

While travelling through the Romanian countryside, tourists can still encounter horse-drawn carts, farmers working the field, haystacks, or herds of animals coming from the pastures The Romanian alpine pastures are dotted with flocks of sheep in the summer, and the cheese is still manufactured in the traditional wooden huts at the top of the mountain.

During the holidays, the locals in the Romanian countryside dress in traditional attire trying to keep their traditions and customs alive. We propose visiting the villages of Maramures, Romania’s northern province, around Christmas to witness carolling and other winter traditions, some of them have strange names: the Goat, the Bears dance, the masked men dance or the “Sorcova”.

Creative Team and Fashion Designing for Display and Demo for Asif Ali Gohar and Vegan Leather

Building a creative team is necessary for the success of any business making and selling materials, and even more so for a new material. In order to keep ideas fresh and to help with advertising, designing and improvements, and collaborations, Asif Ali Gohar keeps a team of people on staff. They are responsible for coming up with new ideas and keeping the business moving forward.

The creative team that he has built was hand selected for their skills and based upon their portfolio. They were all selected by Asif Ali Gohar himself, in cooperation with his human resources managers. When selecting the right candidates many were interviewed and supplied their qualifications including their education and work history. These were just some of the considerations, with the ability to work together as a team was important as well as their creative portfolios.

Several tasks are left to this creative team that are key to the operations of the business and the success of the company. Advertisements and pitch packages must have some ideas for what the vegan leather material can do and ways in which it can be used. It is up to the design department to create the items used in advertising in all of the media. They are also responsible for creating designs and items that can be taken to buyers and shows to them. These designs must be original but also useful and flexible so they can see different ways that it can be used.

Creating designs that are able to display all of the attributes and the flexibility of the material is necessary when finding new investors, buyers, and creating ads. It is necessary to show the vegan leather in many different uses and in ways that are relatable for the buyers as well as the end customer. They must push the limits of the materials and process, while also showing that it can be easy to use. In order to do this the team works very closely regularly. This team has become comfortable with the feel and the limits of the leather, and know the advantages and disadvantages of it. When completing items for presentations they create original works that display just how versatile the leather is, as well as the advantages it offers to the buyer.

When offering a new material that is unfamiliar to people it can provide increased sales to keep a design team on staff. A design team can create examples that display the adaptability and the range of items that can be created. This will assist buyers and other designers in determining if the material will work for their purposes. It allows for the best demonstrations on why they should include these additional materials into their designs. These designers are beneficial to both the company as well as the buyers as it helps them to know what type of things they can do and how they may be able to include the material within their own designs and increase their sales. Using new materials adds to the customer base that will be interested in the designs.
