Three Butterbeer Recipes That’ll Make You Feel Like Harry Potter

Harry Potter fans were first introduced to Butterbeer in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, where students took trips to Hogsmeade and tasted the delicious beverage at the Three Broomsticks. According to Harry, it’s the ‘most delicious thing he’d ever tasted’.

So how does it actually taste, and can you make your own Butterbeer? Let’s find out.

Luckily, many Harry Potter fans are also awesome chefs, and Butterbeer definitely tops the list of Harry Potter food and drinks to try and recreate. It’s the symbol of Harry’s freedom and rebellion when he finally escaped to Hogsmeade and it signifies the thrill of exploring the magical wizarding world, plus the comfort of friendship with Hermoine and Ron.

Here are some enchanting Butterbeer recipes that are sure to warm your heart and stomach.

Classic Frozen Butterbeer:

You’ll need:

Cream soda

Heavy cream

Butterscotch sauce

This classic recipe takes like the Butterbeer you’ll find at the Harry Potter studios in Watford. Begin by placing the soda in a large, shallow dish and place it in the freezer for half an hour. Once it’s removed from the freezer, if it’s started to freeze around the edges, break it up and put it back in for another thirty minutes. Repeat the process until the soda becomes very slushy.

When the soda is almost ready, make the topping. Beat the heavy cream until it’s similar to the texture of beer foam. Then, whisk in enough of the butterscotch sauce to give the cream a strong butterscotch flavour.

To serve, pour or spoon the slushy soda into a clear cup or glass, and spoon the foamy topping on the top.

Butterbeer Milkshake:

You’ll need:

Cream soda

Vanilla ice cream

Whipped cream

Butterscotch syrup

Butterscotch chips

If you love the idea of frozen Butterbeer but want to turn it into a milkshake, this is the perfect recipe for you. It blends butterscotch and cream soda with ice cream for a perfect frozen beverage.

Start by placing your glass in the freezer to chill, and then combine half a cup of butterscotch syrup, cream soda, ice cream, and a pinch of salt in a blender until smooth. Remove your glass from the freezer and drizzle a generous helping of butterscotch syrup inside. Pour the milkshake into the glasses and decorate the top with whipped cream and butterscotch chips. Voila!

Vegan Butterbeer:

You’ll need:

Apple juice

Plant milk

Butterscotch syrup

Vegan ice cream

Pinch of cinnamon and ginger

If you’re looking for a plant-based version of Harry Potter’s favourite drink then look no further. All you need to do is swap out the ice cream for a plant-based version and you’ll have an alternative, vegan option that Harry would still describe as the best thing he ever tasted.

Mix the spices and plant milk in a small bowl, then pour apple juice into a mug or cup. Pour the spice mixture over the apple juice, then add a scoop of ice cream and top with some extra cinnamon. If you need to, you can add more apple juice to make the butterbeer rise more. Swap apple juice for cider if you want to make an alcoholic version.

Boozy Butterbeer:

You’ll need:

Butterscotch Schnapps

Whipped cream flavoured vodka

Cream soda

Marshmallow fluff

If you want to add an extra kick to your butterbeer, this sweet, boozy recipe is perfect. It’s bound to go down a treat at Halloween parties too. Mix together ice, schnapps, vodka, and cream soda in a blender and strain into a glass. Use a fork to whip marshmallow fluff and a little bit of butterscotch schnapps in a dish until it’s liquid, and use the mixture to top off the drink.

Which one of these will you try first?

Tips for Protecting Your Body When Surfing

Surfing on the beach offers a thrilling experience but can also be a huge threat to the life of the surfer. Continue reading below to learn what you should do while surfing to protect your body…
CONTINUE READING >>

Surfing on the beach offers a thrilling experience. For a start, you feel great after paddling out of a giant tide. Besides that, it helps you in burning calories while at the same time having fun. On the other hand, surfing on the ocean is a double edged sword. Apart from being an exciting experience, the activity can also be a huge threat to the life of the surfer. There are many cases of surfers who get injured on the beach. Then there are also those who don’t live to tell their story after being drowned by killer tides. Fortunately, there are ways of avoiding all these dangers and stay safe while enjoying your favorite pastime activity. Continue reading below to learn what you should do while surfing to protect your body.

1. Get Some Training First

Most novice surfers are attracted to the sport after watching professional surfers on TV. While surfing looks cool from whichever angle you choose to look at it, it’s not one of those things that you can wake up one day and start doing. The problem with beginning surfers is that they think they are good to go as long as they are able to cling on their surfing boards. Keep in mind that sometimes the impact of the waves is strong enough to crash a board. For the sake of being on the safe side, it’s recommended you first enroll for some surfing lessons that are offered by experienced surfing instructors so you can build good surfing foundations. Such lessons will equip you with skills that you can use to rescue yourself in case the unexpected happens.

2. Wear Protective Gear

This one is a no brainer. There is no way of guaranteeing your safety when you show up at the beach without wearing protective gear. If you are a beginner, it’s recommended you wear a helmet. The gear is designed to protect your head in case you take a nosedive and land at the bottom of the sea or bump into some rocks. And that’s not all. The helmet can protect your head from being banged by a stray surfing board. Since falling off the board is inevitable, you want to be sure that it will not land on your head. It’s also important that you wear earplugs for surfing. These earplugs are designed to protect your ear canals from being exposed to extremely salty water and wind. You should also wear a fitting swim suit for the sake of protecting your skin from coming into direct contact with the cold water.

3. Maintain a Safe Distance

You certainly never thought that surfing close to other people could be dangerous. Surfing too close to others can actually result in fatal injuries. Picture this. If either of the surfers loses control of their board, they might fall and bump against you. The worst is that you might be hit by their board during a fall. That’s why it’s recommended you maintain some distance between yourself and other people that are also surfing. And you should not be too far because they are the ones that can come to your rescue in case you need help.

4. Avoid Clashing with the Board

Like mentioned earlier in the article, falling off the board is part and parcel of surfing. And since, your body is always tied to the board via a leash, you can be sure that it will follow you wherever you go. While this is done to minimize your chances of drowning, the board can still end up injuring you during such falls that come unexpected. By the rule of thumb, you should try your best to jump away from the board. This helps in ensuring that the board’s impact is absorbed by pressure of the water. In fact, you should make sure you dive with your feet first, especially when the water is shallow to avoid getting injured by rocks and other hard surfaces.

5. Avoid Rip waves

Rip waves are basically strong tides that move out of the sea. They are dangerous because they can drown you and or push you into the deep sea. The good thing is that there is a way of countering them while surfing. For a start, you should not panic when you see a rip wave coming. Trying to get back to the shore by surfing against such giant waves is always a recipe for disaster. In fact, they will overwhelm you and toss you around like a toy. The safest way of countering them is by swimming in a horizontal direction. Even if they are wide, you will still be able to avoid being swept away into deep waters. Just make sure you surf ahead of them on your way out.

Have Travel Photos? They’re Great for These 5 Things

For families that travel together, you likely accumulate a lot of travel photos. What should you do with all of those photos? The idea of just throwing them away is terrible. They’re captured memories, after all. So, what do you do? Here are five ways you can use your travel photos.

1. Create a Photo Book

Perhaps you’ve heard of a scrapbook, but have you ever heard of a photo book? A photo book is a bit different than a scrapbook in that the photos, themselves, tell a story. In a scrapbook, you often write little messages here and there in the book. While that’s fine, it doesn’t always utilize the photo as the main feature.

That’s exactly what a photo book does. And you can  make a photo book with your own pictures. Some may take up the entire page. Others may be minimized and placed on a page alongside others that help tell a story.

As the saying goes, “an image is a thousand words,” your photo book can show exactly that. You don’t need to say anything about your travels. The story is right here.

Photo books are also great as gifts. If your child is graduating high school and off to college, then giving them a photo book of your family’s adventures could be a touching gift. They’ll always have the memories to look back on whenever they’re feeling homesick. They may even pass the book onto their own children when they’ve become an adult.

Photo books can start off a long lineage of shared memories from one generation to the next.

2. Cards

Whether it’s a Christmas Card, Birthday Card, Easter Card, or just a Get Well Soon Card, you could use your travel photos as the main feature. The idea of a card is to send warm wishes to the one receiving it. What better way to make them feel warm than to include a photo of your family from your travels?

It could be a funny photo that can brighten up the recipient’s day. It could be something that your family discovered that could make the recipient feel as though they’re part of the adventure. Or it could be a photo that showcases some breathtaking scenes that will inspire the recipient to make the journey themselves when they can.

Placing your travel photo or photos on a card also makes it more personal. Anyone can just buy a card at the store and send it. Few actually take the time to personalize their card with photos of their family. This can touch the heart of the recipient that you took the extra time just for them.

3. Make a Calendar

Another cool idea that uses your travel photos is to make a calendar. Everyone needs a new calendar every year. Why not have your calendar showcase your favorite photos from your travels? Each time a new month emerges, you’re able to relive the memories associated with the chosen picture of that month.

Some formats even allow you to choose more than one photo for a month. You could have a series of photos that tell the story of a vacation that you took. For those who take several trips throughout the year, may just have enough photos to tell a story of 12 different vacations.

This allows you an opportunity to think back on that vacation and all of the fun that you had with your family. It may even inspire you to set a date for your next great adventure.

Calendars also make for great gifts. Whether it’s to your child who is moving away or extended family and friends, everyone could use a calendar. For those who are near and dear to you, they’ll love looking through the calendar and seeing all of your travel photos. For children, it will allow them to remember the happy times that they shared with their family.

4. Phone Case

With everyone practically getting a new phone case every other year, you could personalize it. Your travel photos could be the perfect background for your brand new photo case. Choosing your favorite one may be difficult. One option is to make a collage of your travel photos, then choose that collage as the background for your phone case.

Every time you look at your phone–which is likely often–you’ll be able to look at the photos and remember the good times. Transforming your travel photos into a phone case means you can take those memories with you wherever you go.

5. Make it Wood

One cool way to preserve your photo is to turn it into wood. There are a few companies that transfer the image of your photo onto a slab of wood. This allows you to decorate your home with travel photos in a totally unique way.

Pick the perfect villa for your wedding in Mykonos

When it comes to wedding destinations, the island of Mykonos in Greece is one of the most popular in the world. When it comes to wedding destinations, the island of Mykonos in Greece is one of the most popular in the world. The reason why this island manages to stand out from the hundreds of other islands in Greece and the Mediterranean Sea, is the fact that it manages to combine natural beauty and a traditional atmosphere with extreme luxury. Mykonos is the favorite vacation of many a celebrity and millionaire because it is famous for its many unique and very luxurious villas. Those villas are the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable wedding in Mykonos and this is why hundreds if not thousands of couples get married there each year.

The good thing about Mykonos villas is the fact that they are all located in large properties and thus they come with large outdoor spaces and lush gardens. This means that the couple can get married AND have the wedding ceremony on the villa’s property. It goes without saying that the island’s many picturesque churches and chapels are also ideal places for a gorgeous wedding ceremony that people will remember forever. So, here’s what you need to know before booking a Mykonos villa for your wedding.

Book fast

Like we said earlier, Mykonos villas are very popular which means that they are in very high demand each year. Although there are many properties on the island not all of them are ideal for weddings. The number of suitable villas is definitely finite and during the moths of summer, it can seem like there’s not enough of them to go around! If you decide on having your wedding in a Mykonos villa, you need to book one as soon as possible and preferably quite a few months before the summer starts. That way you will have more options, the chances of finding a good property will be rather big and you might even land a good deal since demand won’t have driven the prices up yet. It’s a win – win situation!

Work with a property management agency

Property management agencies are essentially middle-men or fixers. They are companies that act as liaisons between the guests and the owners of the properties. A property management agency manages a lot of villas and as such, they know the villa rental market better than anyone. A good manager will listen to your needs and your dreams, will study your budget and will help you pick the perfect property for you. Going through all Mykonos villas looking for the ones that are suitable for weddings is a long and tedious process, leave it to the professionals and focus on your wedding.

Location matters

Some villas can be quite secluded because their main “selling point” is the fact that they offer peace and privacy to their guests. Those villas are usually suitable for weddings but they can be far from “civilization” which can prove troublesome for you and your guests. Also, if you decide to get married in a church, you should pick a property that’s as close as possible to said church. Pay close attention to the location of each villa to avoid bad surprises.

Buying Guttering, Useful Tips You Should Know

We appreciate that you don’t buy guttering every day. When you do buy, it is important to have as much information as possible to make sure you are making the right decisions and getting the order right the first time… CONTINUE READING >>

Here at EasyMerchant, we appreciate that you don’t buy guttering every day. Whilst it’s an everyday occurrence for us unless you are a builder or plumber you may only ever buy this kind of product a few times in your whole life.

When you do buy, it is important to have as much information as possible to make sure you are making the right decisions and getting the order right the first time.

First, you need to decide if you want PVC or metal gutters. PVC is the most popular because it’s not only easy to fit, but it’s also almost maintenance-free and can work out cheaper than metal alternatives. When your budget allows though, take a look at the metal options. When you are working on a period property, or even a modern house with a period style, cast iron or steel gutters may look great and give you lots of options.

When you choose PVC, you basically have four styles from which to choose:

Half Round
Square
Deep Flow (similar to Half Round but deeper)
Ogee (moulded with decorative feature lines).

When you have a roof that is standard in size and not very steep or large Half Round or Square should work fine. When the roof pitches steeper than normal or the house is larger than the average you may consider choosing Deep Flow or Ogee. These offer larger flow capacities so they can cope with a larger amount of rainwater.

When you live in a house that is either semi-detached or terraced, the gutter is likely to join with your neighbour’s gutter. While this doesn’t automatically restrict your choice, you can’t ignore it. The majority of gutter systems offer adaptors that can join onto other system types, but finding out the shape and make of next door’s gutters is key.

Check the fittings because there’s often a name, a manufacturer’s code or even a logo to help with identification.

Most PVC gutters are available in Black, White or Brown, though a lot are made in Grey.  When choosing colour and style it’s worth thinking about how your house looks from the kerb. You may feel that it lends itself to one colour rather than the others.

When the doors, windows, and fascias are mahogany coloured, then brown gutters will probably suit the house better than say white. Of course, Cast Iron effect gutters would look great on any period or older properties. This type of guttering comes with a satin-textured finish and the fittings are moulded to look like Victorian gutters.

When it comes to rainwater pipes, the choice is easy; either circular or square. Half Round and Deep Flow gutters look good with a circular pipe, Square and Ogee suit either square or circular. Circular pipes are a bit easier to work with, especially when bends and swan necks are involved.

Another thing that’s important to consider when you buy gutters online at EasyMerchant is the length of guarantee that comes with the system. A 10-year guarantee and a British Standard are what you should be looking for. If the system doesn’t offer a guarantee, then it’s probably wise not to buy it, unless of course you are prepared to replace it in a few years’ time when the seals are leaking and the colour has faded!

5 Reasons to Spend Your Summer Holiday in Bulgaria

Many people have yet to discover the wonders of Bulgaria, one of the most interesting places in Europe. If you haven’t seen it yet, here are some reasons why you should visit it post haste, especially in the summer…
CONTINUE READING >>

There are many great places to visit in Europe during the summer. But somehow Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal, and France usually overshadow all the smaller countries, especially those in Eastern Europe. For that reason, many people have yet to discover the wonders of Bulgaria, one of the most interesting places in this part of the world.

If you haven’t seen that country yet, here are the reasons why you should visit it post haste, especially in the summer.

1.      Bulgaria is cheap

For a budget traveler, there is hardly a better place than Bulgaria among all of the European summer destinations. According to surveys, it’s the cheapest resort in Europe. Therefore, anyone can enjoy some sunshine during Bulgaria holidays regardless of their budget. And you’ll get excellent service everywhere because while Bulgaria is affordable, it’s not “cheap” in the nasty sense of the word.

Here you can find good accommodation and enjoy delicious local meals at a minimum expense. All you need is some planning. Choose Airbnb instead of fancy hotels and small local stalls and cafes instead of luxury restaurants. In fact, do the latter regardless of whether you want to save on food or not, local cuisine is definitely more delicious than any imitation of the Italian that you’ll find in fancy restaurants.

2.      Bulgaria has lovely beach resorts

If you are going there for the summer holiday, you are going for the beaches, right?

Well. Bulgaria has many amazing beaches to offer. They are mostly soft sand beaches with cute small coastal towns. Expect to see many cafes right next to the beach, so you’ll be able to enjoy freshly-caught fish and drinks while relaxing in the sun.

There are quite a few clunky buildings that are leftovers from the Soviet era. But they hardly detract from the beauty of nature. It’s also fascinating to use them as a contrast to see how much the Bulgaria of today has changed compared to those times.

3.      Bulgaria is filled with history

If you are passionate about exploring ancient historical sites in between beach visits, Bulgaria is the perfect destination for you. Some of the buildings here are literally over a thousand years old. There are multiple well-preserved medieval fortresses and local temples are as ancient as they are beautiful.

You don’t even need to travel far away from the coast as some of the most interesting historic sites in Bulgaria are located on the beaches. For example, the Ancient City of Nessebar, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is no doubt the loveliest coastal town you are likely to ever see.

There are also places like the Ancient Plovdiv. Some of the buildings there are standing since the Roman times. There are also many museums that will tell you about some pages in the history of Europe you might not have known.

4.      Bulgaria is a feast

A feast is, basically, any local meal because they are delicious and all include numerous courses. Relax your diet while you are here because you have to enjoy the many local delicacies. From goulash to the multitude of sweets and freshly-baked breads.

Don’t forget local wines as well because those are just as good and go perfectly with the hearty delicious meals.

The “cherry on top” is the hospitality of the local people. They are extremely open and welcoming and love sharing bread with guests.

5.      Bulgaria is fascinating

Bulgaria’s culture is vibrant and full of most interesting and peculiar traditions. If you have a chance, visit as many of the local festivals as possible. This way you’ll get to see such amazing things like dancing with monsters (Kukeri) or listen to bagpipes in the mountains.

You can also watch people dancing on hot embers (come on June, 3) or listen to live music at a mountaintop (1,500m high) during the Blueberry Festival.
