Greece Cruising Holidays Guide: Stunning Islands You Must Visit

With over a hundred islands to visit, picking one can be challenging. So take a look at this list of some stunning islands you must see when in Greece…
CONTINUE READING >>

Undeniably, Greece has some of the most beautiful islands and beaches in the world. A majority of travel enthusiasts have the “Greek islands” on their list due to their laid back vibe and diverse archipelagos. Despite looking like a monolithic entity, every island has its own characteristics and identity. With over a hundred islands to visit, picking a handful to spend your holidays on can be challenging. Since a majority of the picturesque islands are accessible through yachts and ferries, you can successfully hop from one island to another. Take a look at this list of some stunning islands you must visit when in Greece.

1.   Mykonos

If you want a luxurious getaway with fewer crowds, Mykonos island should be your top choice. The Aghios Ioannis peninsula lines up several hotels with stunning sea views and plausibly a chance to peek at the beautiful sunset. The tiny streets with white stone structures and luscious pink Bougainvillea trees offer a scenic background for photography. Foko and Agia Anna Beach are some secluded areas you can visit to get the feel of Greek beaches while avoiding a big crowd. If you are visiting Mykonos in summer, you can easily reach the island through a ferry from Rafina or Piraeus.

2.   Santorini

One of the most popular islands of Greece, Santorini is a hot destination among solo travelers as well as partners looking for romantic getaways. The island is a must-visit destination for sunset lovers as Oia is well-known for its sparkling sea view. Every village in Santorini has its own character but looks like a unified entity due to its signature white and blue architectural style. You can also visit the famous Minoan ruins on this island. Reaching this island is fairly easy from Athens, Crete, and Piraeus. With frequent flights and ferries shuttling to and fro, you can reach Santorini within 45 minutes to 4 hours, depending on the season and mode of transport you choose.

3.   Paxos

This secluded Ionian island packs sophistication and beauty, which is why it is perfect for nature lovers. However, do not expect a lot of picturesque beaches or grand five-star hotels on Paxos. Travelers are left mesmerized by its crystal blue sea. You can easily find secluded spots on this island where you can relax in peace. Book one of the villas for a comfortable getaway experience. Visit the bar on Monodendri beach to get your hands on a few Pina Coladas and some French toast. Travel to the smaller island, Antipaxos, on a yacht, or book a secret beach with a private chef.

4.   Kea

Kea is a part of the Cyclades islands, but it is a bit different than its counterparts. Both locals and tourists love to visit this island due to its proximity to the mainland. Several yachts and ferries depart from Athens to Kea, making it easier to access the island’s welcome point. Among all anchorages on Kea, Orgias is probably the most remote cove on the island’s tip. Commonly known as Otzias, the site offers exciting water activities like swimming, snorkeling, and surfing. Ioulida, the island’s capital, is home to traditional Greek architecture and the Archaeological Museum.

5.   Milos

Once an underrated place, Milos is slowly and steadily gaining recognition among architecture and travel enthusiasts. Its theatrical coastline and stunning waters add character to the island. Papafragas and Sarakiniko are two well-known places in Milos. Make a chic hotel reservation in Pollonia before more people discover this place. The volcanic eruptions on this island are a significant part of Milos’s history. You should also add the archaeological museums, labyrinthine streets, amphitheater remains, and catacombs to your list. The easiest and fastest way to reach Milos is by taking a flight from Athens. However, ferries to Milos are also cheap and readily available during peak season.

6.   Crete

One of the largest islands of Greece, Crete is famous for its beaches, tiny towns, and Minoan ruins. Hania and Heraklion are two well-known cities on this island and can be reached by ferry from Piraeus. Although the island is located in the southernmost part of the cluster, you can reach Crete within a few hours during the right season. You can also fly from Athens to Crete and rent a car to reach every part of the island. Elafonissi is a famous beach in Crete with amazing views. If you have the luxury to spend more money on this trip, stay in one of the five-star resorts on the island for a luxurious experience.

Even though island hopping in Greece seems fairly easy, you need to prepare a list to stick to your schedule and budget. Pick the most underrated places and islands for an equally mesmerizing yet affordable experience. Lastly, keep the distance and season in mind when booking a yacht.

5 Hidden Benefits of Home Security Systems

A home security system can help keep your family safe, but did you know that these five hidden benefits might just be the reason you are convinced to invest in a system?

A home security system can help keep your family safe by detecting entry, providing monitoring, and recording the break-in (if necessary). But did you know that these benefits go beyond simply offering protection? These five hidden benefits might just be the reason you are finally convinced to invest in a system for yourself!

1. It will improve the resale value of your home

Even in nice neighborhoods, there is always the risk for criminal activity. In some instances, your unsecured home is more of a target in a high-income area. Adding a home security system gives you a first line of defense against burglars and intruders while you are away. To a prospective buyer, this is a good selling point and can be a reason to raise the price.

2. It will reduce insurance premiums

Unfortunately, most insurance companies have raised their rates in recent years to keep up with the rising costs of crime across the nation. Some homeowners might find it difficult to keep up with these increases. However, adding a home security system can help lower your premiums because you are taking proactive steps to reduce the risk of burglary. You might even qualify for a discount!

3. It will increase protection in your neighborhood

When someone in your area gets their home broken into, criminals often see it as an indication that there are no working alarms in the neighborhood. This makes it much easier for them to pick out other homes that might be worth breaking into. A home security system that is constantly on alert provides peace of mind for everyone in the neighborhood – and keeps criminals at bay.

4. It improves energy management

Many security systems have smart home integrations. These allow you to take advantage of energy management through your security system. From automatically triggering lights before you arrive home to adjusting the thermostat while you are away, these systems can help improve efficiency and save money on utilities. They are also useful in the event that you accidentally leave lights, appliances, or the TV on while you are away from home for an extended period of time.

5. It is good for your pets while you are away

Home security systems are a great way to protect your pet when you aren’t at home. You can set up specific alerts and notifications or even use a camera to check in on your furry friends while you are away. This is a great option if you travel often, work in an office all day, or just want peace of mind when you aren’t around.

They are also great for keeping your pet busy. Home security systems with cameras and voice capabilities can allow you to communicate with your pet and even leave them treats when you aren’t at home (if they can be trusted with this task).

Don’t wait another second before protecting the people and things that matter most in your life. This is not a decision that you will regret, regardless of whether or not criminals ever break into your home. But if they do, you will be glad that you invested in the best home security.

How to Reheat Leftover Chicken from KFC Bucket Meals

When you’re ordering lots of food from KFC, checking out the bucket meals is always a good idea. With the prices for bucket meals between $11-43, you get a lot for a reasonable amount of money. But more often than not, you end up with too much food.

That’s especially true when you order when you’re just ordering for yourself and figure that $20 is a reasonable price to pay. That can get you the 8 Piece Family Fill Up, which means you’re getting 8 pieces of chicken. That’s almost impossible to finish, especially as the meal also comes with 2 large mashed potatoes and gravy, a large coleslaw, and 4 biscuits.

Still, you can always enjoy the chicken later in the day, or even tomorrow. The chicken can keep. But how do you reheat the chicken? It’s not as fun eating chicken when it’s cold.

The good news is that you can reheat the chicken easily enough. There are several ways you can do this:

Oven (or Toaster Oven)

This can take 15 to 25 minutes, depending on how cold the chicken got. It’ll take long if the chicken was in the freezer, instead of just in the fridge.

    1. Preheat the oven to 350F.
    2. Set the fried chicken on a baking sheet. For easier cleanup, cover the baking sheet with foil.
    3. Place this in the oven, for about 15 to 25 minutes. Breasts and thighs will take longer to reheat (20-25 mins) compared to legs and wings (15-20 mins).
    4. Make sure they’re not overcooked, so keep a close watch.
    5. Remove from the oven when done. The internal temperature should be 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
    6. Let it cool a bit, then enjoy.

It’s the same process with the toaster oven, though it may take a bit longer.

Air Fryer

Do you have an air fryer? This is the option that’s great if you’re in a hurry.

    1. Set the leftover fried chicken in the air fryer basket.
    2. For optimal results, spray the chicken with extra virgin olive oil.
    3. Reheat the chicken at 320 degrees Fahrenheit (160 degrees Celsius) for about 6 to 7 minutes. That’s 3 minutes on each side.
    4. After that, take out the fried chicken from the air fryer. Let it cool for a bit, and it’s ready.

Deep Fryer

Using a deep fryer is another good method to try. The main risk, however, is that you end up overcooking the chicken if you’re not too careful. Some say that it’s not healthy to add more oil to the chicken. But if that’s all right with you, then go ahead.

    1. Heat up enough oil in your deep fryer.
    2. Set the fried chicken in the deep fryer basket and make sure that the chicken pieces are totally submerged in the oil.
    3. This won’t take long, though. You’ll only need about 3 to 5 minutes. Keep in mind that you’re only reheating the chicken. It’s already been cooked before, so there’s no need to overdo it. Overcooking the chicken just won’t do.
    4. Once again, after enough time has passed, take the chicken pieces out, let them cool, and have fun.

Frying Pan (Skillet or Stovetop)

This isn’t a healthy option either, as you’re frying the chicken once again. That means more oil absorbed, and therefore you have more of the fat. You’re also risking that the chicken coating turns up soggy as a result, if you’re not careful.

    1. Use a medium flame to preheat your skillet or frying pan.
    2. Add some oil to the pan, and then let it heat up.
    3. When you’ve properly heated up the oil, put in the pieces of chicken to the frying pan.
    4. Leave the chicken pieces in for about 3 to 5 minutes on each side. Again, this is about reheating the chicken. You’re not cooking the chicken, as it’s already been cooked.
    5. Take it out, let it cool, and enjoy!

Final Words

How come there’s no mention of the ubiquitous microwave oven? That’s off the list, because it seriously messes up the chicken. You end up with a soggy mess, with a mushy exterior that’s the very opposite of “crunchy” and “crispy”.

If you’re not bothered with that, then you can always just set the chicken pieces in the microwave for about 30 to 60 seconds. But if you don’t care about the crispy chicken, then why the heck did you insist on KFC in the first place?

So do yourself a favor, and reheat the fried chicken properly when you’re dealing with leftover chicken from a KFC Bucket Meal.

The archipelago of 40 coral islands is the centerpiece of the Turks and Caicos, a British Overseas Territory. The largest island, Providenciales, is a bustling resort town. The island’s beaches are not populated. However, visitors can find a variety of seashells and other sea creatures in the surrounding islands. The most common of these is the conch shell. There are numerous other shells on the island, including mollusks. The island’s seashells are edible, but you’ll need to prepare yourself for a cold one.
