Understanding the Right Transport Options for Your Solo Travel Experience

Travel is one of those things that allows you so much freedom. You get to taste the beauty of everything around you and experience so much that you wouldn’t normally. It’s also an amazing way for you to come out of yourself and lose your inhibitions. One of the scariest, yet freeing things about travel is when you go traveling by yourself. But this is why so many people have to come round to a certain way of thinking, not least when it comes to the modes of transportation. Solo travel is going to help you in so many ways, but there are also benefits to choosing the right type of transport so you can experience your chosen destination in the right ways. With this in mind, what are the benefits of certain types of transportation based on your solo trip adventures?

What if You Want To Cover a Lot of Distance?

For the people who like to go on long road trips, it’s vital that they get their own mode of transportation. Solo travelers don’t tend to rely on renting a motorcycle or getting their own car, but this is why you’ve got to think about the number of miles you wish to cover. If you really want to experience the heartlands of Nevada up close and personal, you can rent a motorcycle in Las Vegas so you can get to grips with the land around you. You can opt for public transport, such as Greyhound buses, but the problem with this approach is that you don’t really immerse yourself in the journey. It’s perfect if you’re going in between cities because you could travel overnight for cheap, but when you are trying to cover a lot of distance you need to get your own motorcycle or car.

What if You Want To Do What the Locals Do?

When in Rome, do as the Romans do, and this means hitting the public transport. Public transport has its fair share of detractors, especially when we’re talking about solo travel, but if you want to immerse yourself into the heart of a city and do as the people do, public transport is the simplest way to do it. As an added benefit, it’s also the cheapest! But there are things that you need to consider when you are traveling by yourself. You may want to avoid using public transport late at night, especially if you stick out like a sore thumb. And this is why you should get to grips with the location before you dive into public transport. Ensuring that you have your first few nights of accommodation booked is going to help so you can book trusted taxi providers from the accommodation, but also remember to ask the price will help you plan ahead during the first few nights of your stay. If you are going to stay in one place for a week, you will soon get to grips with public transport but also understand the peak times when you should avoid it.

What About Walking?

Solo travelers will always benefit from walking and covering a huge distance. It’s in the solo traveler’s DNA to walk miles so they can get a feel for a certain place, but when you are trying to cover a lot of ground you need to get the balance right between where you walk, but also when it’s better to get a taxi. Walking around always benefits you when you pre-plan. When you’ve stopped in a city for a few days, look at the locations you want to get to grips with. For example, if you are looking for the best museums in Milan, you need to understand that they are dispersed far away from each other. And while we all rely on maps these days, it’s always worth downloading an offline map in case you get lost. Exploring is always a great thing. but you’ve got to have your backups in place. Walking is a great way to experience what a place feels like and save money, but you should always have a bit of money left over in case you find yourself accidentally venturing off the beaten track and the hour is getting late.

Should We Always Be Cautious With Taxis?

When you land in a location, it’s always worth checking the distance and how long it would take for you to arrive at your accommodation. Naturally, we’re all a bit wary of taxi drivers, and this is why you need to make up a little white lie when you are getting a taxi, for example, saying that a friend or partner is waiting for you at your destination. It’s also a good idea to make a pretend phone call that you will be there in X amount of minutes, and take the taxi number you are in if there is one on display. It is always a good idea to be cautious when it comes to getting a taxi. You should never be coerced into having a sightseeing tour on the way to your accommodation. You always need to make sure that you and the driver are the only ones in there, and if they want to put someone else in the car you need to get out, depending on where you are. If you can benefit from getting a taxi by yourself, it is going to give you more peace of mind.

As far as solo travelers are concerned, when we’re talking about transport, there are so many options, but we’ve also got to think about how we will benefit from each mode of transport. There are plenty of options for you. But at the end of the day, it’s about making sure you find the ones that give you peace of mind. A lot of people would benefit from getting their own car and having a major road trip, but others want to immerse themselves in the culture more, in which case, public transport is beneficial. There is no right or wrong but make sure you feel comfortable.
