Simple Ways to Stay in Shape While Traveling

It can be hard to stay healthy when you’re traveling. You don’t have access to your usual exercise routine, and it’s often difficult to find nutritious food that is also quick and easy. That said, there are many ways for you to take care of yourself while on the go. Below are a few simple tips.

Stay active

When you are traveling, stay active by walking as much as possible. This also means that you can always opt to take bike rides or even hike to explore a new place, even on the Inis Mor Island. Rest assured that you won’t have to bring your bike if you prefer the former because you can always rent one. Otherwise, you can always take advantage of public transportation, which will still entail the need for you to walk in between stops or stations.

For you to be able to stay active, you can also try taking a walk instead of ordering room service or going down to the bar with friends. If you are in a new place, it will be even more exciting for you to explore the area this way. Just keep in mind that when you are walking in an unfamiliar place, you must stay safe by bringing a map or asking for directions.

Squeeze in exercise

You don’t need to hire a personal trainer for you to stay fit when traveling, but you must find time each day to exercise, even if this means only 15 minutes of jogging or running on the treadmill at your hotel’s gym. You can also opt to take up pilates, yoga, or any other form of exercise class that interests you. If this is not your cup of tea, then try going to the local gym for a run on its treadmill instead. However, this will only prove to be beneficial if you will be staying at a certain place for a bit longer.

If you are only visiting for a few days, then it is best if you take a jog outside or simply walk around the neighborhood to explore your surroundings. If you love cardio exercises, then don’t forget to pack a jump rope because it can be an excellent way for you to burn calories and lose weight while traveling. With this equipment, your muscles will also get toned, particularly those in the lower body, which can be very beneficial if you are also looking for ways to improve your overall wellness. Even just 10 minutes of jump roping before you explore can help you burn more calories.

●      Plan your workouts

You can plan to exercise every day before heading out on a trip, so you won’t have any difficulty knowing what to do when you arrive at your destination. If possible, try to book accommodations that are near gyms or other workout facilities, so it will be easy for you to squeeze in a workout. You can also check out the hotel gym before you book a room. If you’re staying in a hostel, ask about their policies on working out. Rest assured that many have gyms available for guests to use at no charge. Bring along your workout clothes and shoes, so you can exercise on the go, and you won’t have to worry about the time it will take you. Also, don’t forget your running shoes and other exercise essentials because they can be very helpful when it comes to fitting workouts into your travel itinerary.

Pack some healthy snacks

To avoid eating junk food, you should bring healthy snacks with you when traveling. Avoid bringing sugary items since they can be addictive and unhealthy, even if these are your favorite treats to munch on after a meal. Instead of candy bars or chips, pack nuts such as peanuts because not only will they fill you up, but you also get the benefits from their antioxidant vitamins. Some of the best healthy snacks you can bring on a trip are whole-grain crackers, granola bars, dried fruit, and nuts.

Make sure to stay hydrated

Carrying water with you or drinking lots of water at restaurants will allow you to stay hydrated, particularly when you are on a long drive or participating in activities that will make you sweat. If possible, avoid drinking soda and other sugary drinks because these can quickly add up to your calorie intake for the day while not being good for your overall health either. As much as possible, invest in a water bottle with a filter system to avoid drinking tap water, since this can be unsanitary and unsafe. With this type of water bottle, you will have no trouble keeping yourself hydrated and in good shape.

Take time for yourself every day

Finally, make sure to take time for yourself every day. This means stretching every morning and night before bedtime. You can also take a hot bath before going to bed. If you love taking bubble baths, then you should bring your favorite scented items with you when traveling because this will help keep stress at bay and give you the relaxation time that your body needs after a long day of exploring your surroundings. This will foster your goals of staying in shape because stress is known to be one of the factors that can affect your weight and overall wellness.

The key to staying healthy on the road is making it as easy as possible. Pack some healthy snacks, so you don’t find yourself at a fast-food restaurant or convenience store without any options, or bring your workout clothes and shoes with you so that an hour of exercise can be squeezed in wherever there’s space for a run. You can also check out the gym before booking your hotel room and consider taking advantage of their facilities for free. Just make sure to do your research beforehand. If after all this planning still doesn’t work out, and you’re forced into temptation mode by hunger or boredom, stretch every morning and night before bedtime. These little tricks will keep those pesky pounds from piling up while you are traveling.
