Like many films, some games are based on books but many people are not aware of that. Works of literature are increasingly influencing digital games mainly due to robust character development and plot. You no longer have to sit behind the screen and watch events unfold in the film. Video games now allow you to be part of the happenings, controlling and managing events with your joystick or keyboard. Here are games you probably didn’t know were adapted from books.

Age of Conan: Unchained

First on our list is this multiplayer video game based on the novel ‘Conan’ written by Robert E. Howard. Age of Conan continues to make strides in the gaming world, thanks to familiar events in the novel.

The Dark Eye

The Dark Eye is a horror adventure video game with complex and evolving characters. The game is adapted from three stories by Alan Poe, namely The Cask of Amontillado, Berenice, and The Tell-Tale Heart. The Dark Eye allows the player to explore scary tales by Allan that are reinforced with voice narration by William Burroughs.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

The Witcher television series has gained a lot of popularity in the recent past and continues to be watched worldwide. However, you may not be aware the series is a book adaptation and that there is also a video game version of it. First released in 2011, the video game features a human character whose exceptional skills and tactics help them hunt monsters. The player must guide their hero through dangerous paths and overcome dragnets until they complete the mission. The Witcher 2 is just one of the video games adapted from books written by popular Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski.

The Binding of Isaac

The Binding of Isaac is one of the few games adapted from the Bible. Being the most read book by humans, Bible stories have made their way into movie theaters and video game shops. This particular game is based on the story of Abraham and Isaac when God asked the old man to kill his only son. However, it is not Abraham you find in the game, rather it is a cruel woman whose interest is to create problems. The player is required to use their characters to beat the odds and advance to the next level.

Lord of the Rings: Battle for the Middle Earth II

This is a highly tactical game that is based on a novel of the same name by Peter Jackson. The book was first adapted into a movie before a game was developed in 2006 for computers and Xbox. The player is supposed to commend various armies such as the army of Humans and the army of Dwarfs in two campaigns. Battle for the Middle Earth II is different from other Lord of the Rings games in that it has many army units and great graphics.
