Looking for a destination for an outdoor-themed bachelor party with a plethora of outstanding local craft breweries, live music and endless daytime activities? Look no further than Bend, Oregon. While Bend is known for its many tasty breweries, there is more to this small city than just their incredible beer. Bend is geographically blessed with an incredible location along the eastern edge of the Cascade Range right on the Deschutes River. Its location surrounded by mountains, rivers and lakes make it the perfect destination for outdoorsy bachelors. Options are endless, but we recommend mountain biking the famous Bend singletrack, kayaking the Deschutes River, and wrapping it all up with craft brewery tours and outdoor live music.
The Outdoors
Bend mountain biking is world renowned for a reason. The incredible amount and variety of trails in the Bend area makes biking a top priority for many visitors. If your group needs to rent bikes, TripOutside.com makes it easy to rent a bike online from Hutch’s bike shop, which is conveniently located downtown Bend, and has high end rental bikes for every type of rider.
A great place to start is Phil’s trail system. This trail network is just minutes from downtown Bend and features 98 different trails with hundreds of miles of incredible singletrack for all levels of riders. Phil’s Trail is the local’s choice for mountain biking for good reason. Check out Trailforks.com for more details on each of the trails. Trails wind through Pac NW forests and offer great views of nearby Mt. Bachelor.
When the temps rise, it’s time to hit the water! The Deschutes River is one of the most iconic rivers in the West, and there is no better way to experience it than by kayak or paddleboard. A popular float route is from Farewell Bend Park to Drake Park through the Old Mill District. Add kayak or paddleboard rentals to your trip on TripOutside.com and pick them up at Bend Kayak School, the premier paddle sports outfitter in downtown Bend. Paddling the river offers a stellar opportunity for immersing yourselves in the beauty of the Pac Northwest.
The Beer
Drinking craft beer is a fantastic way to wrap up any outdoor adventure, and a requirement for most bachelor parties. Fortunately, Bend is renowned for its 18 craft breweries. Experience all of them on the Bend Ale Trail, the largest beer trail in the West. Pick up the map and passport at any of the participating breweries and sample locally-made beer at each brewery. If you get stamps from 10 breweries, bring your completed passport to the Bend Visitor Center for a commemorative souvenir. Visiting 18 breweries gets you an additional memento. The Bend Tourist Board doesn’t recommend doing all 10 breweries (and certainly not 18!) in one day though, and why fly through them when you have a few days! Many of the breweries offer delicious food options as well, so choose a couple a day to visit!
The Live Music Scene
You can’t beat a free outdoor concert, especially one with plentiful food trucks and drink options. The Munch and Music summer series is in it 29th season, and takes place Thursday evenings in Drake Park from July 11th to August 15th. Plan on arriving a bit early to snag a good seat, and bring chairs and blankets to sit back and enjoy the show.
