CBD quickly became everyone’s safe and effective choice for pain relief after hemp products were legalized in the US. Even the FDA says CBD effectively fights epilepsy. With every new test, the CBD products of plain jane prove to help ease many health conditions.
But what is the right way to consume CBD? Is there a right way?
There is no right or wrong way when it comes to taking CBD. The most important thing is that you remember to take it.
That’s why so many CBD users take edibles. It’s really easy to remember to take your morning dose if it’s part of your breakfast.

Do CBD Gummies Work?
CBD edibles, in general, are a reliable way to take your daily dose. By taking something like CBD gummies for pain, you’re guaranteed a few hours of relief.
Digesting cannabinoids amps up their potency. A little goes a long way when it comes to edibles like CBD gummies.
How Does CBD Work?
CBD works by aiding your endocannabinoid system (EDS). This system sends messages between your cells. For instance, if your shoulder hurts, the EDS tells your cells to deal with the inflammation.
The EDS also controls:
- The sleep cycle
- Cardiovascular function
- Liver function
- Nerve and skin function
- Immune system responses
- Chronic pain
When the EDS functions smoothly, that’s called homeostasis. It’s the ideal way our systems should function and the EDS strives to make it happen.
A boost from cannabinoids like CBD allows your EDS to focus on chronic problems. CBD may help treat conditions like:
- Crohn’s disease
- Chronic pain
- Multiple sclerosis
Testing for CBD’s benefits continue. Several recent tests showed CBD is a good long-term treatment for anxiety. A Colorado study reported 78% of patients improved with CBD treatments.
The Benefits of CBD Edibles
Taking your daily dose of CBD doesn’t need to include holding a bitter tincture under your tongue. Slip some CBD oil into your favorite smoothie and you’re good to go.
Thanks to the delayed effect from digestion, CBD edibles give pain patients all-day relief. The anti-inflammatory properties last for up to 6 hours.
CBD edibles are a discreet way to take your supplement. Unless you tell someone, they’d never know your lunch has CBD in it.
But just to be safe, if you plan to store edibles, please clearly label them. Do not leave CBD edibles within easy reach of children.
How Long Does It Take For the Benefits of Edibles to Kick In?
Everyone reacts to CBD differently thanks to our metabolism. The quality of the product and the ingestion method also determine how you process CBD.
The average dose of CBD is 5 to 10 mg. Some of that CBD won’t make it to your bloodstream, unfortunately. Thankfully, a little CBD is usually all it takes to get the job done.
If you take an average dose of CBD in your edible, it’ll take anywhere from an hour to two hours to take full effect.
Keep in mind, CBD is non-psychoactive. You may not feel it work the same way you would feel a THC-based edible.
How to Make CBD Edibles at Home
There’s no rule saying you can’t make taking supplements like CBD more exciting. Find a new, delicious way to get the benefits of edibles without the bitter tincture aftertaste.
Making Your Own CBD Cooking Oil
The first step is to learn how to make your own CBD butter and oil. There are two methods, with CBD flower or using CBD oil.
The easiest method is to buy a full-spectrum CBD oil. Heat the oil or butter you want to under 350* F. Add how much CBD oil you want to ensure each serving has the right amount.
CBD butter is best for baking. Avoid sauteing with it. High heat kills the CBD’s potency.
CBD oil has a much wider range of uses, depending on your base. Olive oil is great if you love cooking Italian food.
CBD Salad Dressing
This dressing pairs well with goat cheese and berries. It’ll help you relax on a long weekend.
- 1/4 cup CBD olive oil
- 1/2 cup Extra-virgin olive oil
- 1/4 cup Balsamic vinegar
- 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Toss everything except the seasoning and oil in the food processor
- Start the processor and slowly drizzle in the regular oil
- Slowly drizzle in the CBD olive oil
- Stop the processor when all the oil is mixed in evenly
- Season with salt and pepper as desired
The CBD salad dressing would also work well on chicken or pork.
