Paradise in the Middle of the Costa Rican Jungle

Costa Rica is widely recognized as a top destination for eco-tourism. If that conjures up visions of carrying a backpack through the jungle, sleeping in tents, and living off of nuts and wild papayas, we can relate.

But that was before The Parador Resort & Spa brought us to Central America to show us the greener side of luxury… CONTINUE READING >>

Time Traveling to Tower 23

The “spring forward” time change to Daylight Saving Time each year is one of our favorite days of the year. So this year we decided to celebrate moving our clocks ahead by one hour, and thereby making a day of only 23 hours, in a style befitting such a grand stretch of the time – space continuum… CONTINUE READING >>

Meet Bigfoot’s Florida Cousin!

Skunk Apes are omnivores, with the ability to climb and make beds out of leafy branches, there are an estimated 7 – 9 of them in the Everglades, they like alligator caves, smell like rotten eggs, and they love lima beans. Adventures in Nest Swapping

One of the many advantages to having an “empty” nest is the freedom to swap your nest with other adventurous types. We decided that before we sold our house, we would try using it as bait for a cheap month in New York City.

Being in the habit of Googling at the drop of a hat, we took the online approach to finding suitable exchanges. We looked at several different sites, and chose a well known one for its ease of use and abundant choices from all over the globe. For a small annual fee, one can peruse homes, set up destinations to visit and… CONTINUE READING >>

How to Plan a Family Vacation with Adult Kids

We’ve had this fantasy about whisking our entire family off to an exotic location for some time now. Imagine the five of us blissfully getting away from it all, laughing and sharing our experiences as we sip umbrella drinks while the sun sets into a tropical ocean.

Putting together a family vacation after the kids are grown and living on their own seems like it should be a snap compared to traveling with toddlers, or worse yet, teenagers.

So why is it so hard?

With no roadside diaper changes, exploding sippy cup disasters… CONTINUE READING >>

Our Year in an RV – What We Spent & How We Did It

So how do committed boat people end up in an RV? Easy. On a spur of the moment whim.

Since we headed off into GypsyNester territory, BAMF has taken us to thirty-four states, three Canadian provinces, fourteen National Parks and a beautiful seaside town in Mexico. It was an amazing journey. We had no idea what we were doing, but we sure learned a lot, so we’d like to share some of what we discovered along the… CONTINUE READING >>
