Many people are drawn to the idea of becoming a digital nomad – the freedom of being able to earn money while travelling anywhere in the world. However, it’s not always as easy as many people think. Here are just a few tips that can help you to make this lifestyle work for you.

Invest in a secure bag

Your laptop is your livelihood, so you need to keep it secure. When choosing a backpack or a suitcase, prioritise security. One of these anti-theft travel bags could be worth considering.

Buy a decent portable charger

For times when there isn’t a plug socket available, a portable charger can come in handy. Some of the best portable chargers can carry multiple laptop charges, potentially allowing you to go days without access to electricity.

Research ahead into wi-fi

Most hotels, hostels and cafes around the world have wi-fi in 2020. But the quality of this wi-fi isn’t always great and may not always be free. Research this head when looking into accommodation or places to work from. There are sites that offer information on the wi-fi quality of hotels that you could use.

Use a VPN

Some networks that you log onto may not always be secure. Using a virtual private network (VPN) allows you to keep your connection secure so that personal information isn’t stolen.

Look into portable wi-fi

There are portable wi-fi routers that you can buy that give you internet access on the go. These can be useful if you can’t find good quality internet. Some of these work on a pay-as-you-go basis, so you can top them up when you need to.

Find ways to work offline

There may be some work that you can do offline. This could give you more freedom to travel to remote areas while still continuing projects. Prepare for these offline days by saving any emails or web pages that you think you may need.

Minimize meetings

Meetings can be a nuisance when travelling. While you can rely on phone calls and video calls, you need a good connection. Meetings also need to be scheduled, which can limit your ability to work flexibly (changing time zones can also complicate things) Try to communicate as much information by email as you can rather than having to schedule out meetings so that you’re able to work more flexibly.

Consider a virtual address

Need to receive physical mail? With virtual address online access you can have your mail directed to a virtual address and you can read it digitally. This is much more convenient than getting clients to mail you at whatever hotel you’re at.

Be sensible about where you can work

Just because you can work practically anywhere doesn’t mean that you should. Some places such as the beach may not be practical. If you want to visit the beach, do it in your free time.

Get the work/travel balance right

It’s important that you’re doing enough work so that you’re making enough on an income to live on while you travel. However, you don’t want to spend so much time working than you can’t enjoy the places you’re travelling to. By travelling slowly, you can enjoy more free time in each place. At the same time, don’t get too caught up partying or adventuring to the point that you neglect your work.

Legal Insurance Can Save You Money On Legal Fees: Here’s How It Works

Expect the unexpected.

That’s what insurance is for, right?

Well, why not apply this to legal troubles?

Lawyers’ fees can stack up when you’re in a legal bind. But what if you could save money and still get the legal help you need? Learn all about legal insurance.

What is Legal Insurance?

Legal insurance goes by many names:

Group legal services insurance, prepaid legal services, legal protection insurance, legal expenses insurance, etc.

Whatever you want to call it, legal insurance is prepaid protection that provides you with attorney access in the unexpected event that you find yourself in a legal dispute.

Legal insurance is a good option for those who may not want to wait to fork over a fortune for a lawyer once the dreaded time comes.

You likely don’t even think about contacting a lawyer unless you need one, right? Chalk it up to human nature.

The vast majority of people who may need legal help at some point, some 76% report not knowing a lawyer to call.

Prepaid legal insurance is a solution for those who may possess the foresight to keep an attorney’s advice at the ready.

But where do you find legal insurance?

Often, you can find legal insurance plans through your employer.

Many companies offer policies to individuals.

Either way, legal insurance comes at a low monthly fee. Often, you can find plans as low as a few dollars a month.

What Does Legal Insurance Cover?

Legal insurance can cover a variety of legal needs, from seeking a few minutes of advice over the phone to reviewing documents like a will or trust to attorney hours billed to a case.

Imagine yourself in any of the following situations. There’s likely a legal plan for it.

Divorce

Divorce is, historically, the most common way people use their legal insurance.

With the majority of marriages ending in divorce, millennials have grown allergic to marriage.

Perhaps, as a result, divorce issues are now often excluded from legal insurance policies.

Estate Planning

Estate issues are the second most popular use for prepaid legal services.

You’ll need an attorney to help you get your estate in order. From wills to trusts to powers of attorney, estate planning is one area where you don’t want to wing it.

Buying or Selling Property

There are many legal loopholes to consider when entering real estate deals.

From contracts to appraisals, any real estate transaction should have the input of an attorney.

Civil Disputes

Civil cases can run the gamut from neighbor disputes to copyright infringement.

If you find yourself as a defendant in a civil case, many legal insurance policies will have you covered.

Auto Accidents/Personal Injury

Car accidents can create a world of damage.

From the destruction of your car to severe injury, you may find yourself needing a lawyer to file a claim on the other party’s insurance.

This goes for non-auto accident personal injuries as well.

From slip-and-falls to boating accidents to dog bites, there exist many threats to your body out there.

Note that not only can a legal insurance policy cover you as the plaintiff, but also as the defendant in such matters.

Criminal Charges

You may find yourself on the accused end of something criminal, like a drug charge.

You may have severely messed up, or you may be innocent.

Either way, legal insurance policies may cover you in certain criminal cases.

Medical Billing Issues

According to some studies, medical debt is responsible for two-thirds of all bankruptcies in America.

Surprise medical bills can ruin your finances, and having invested a few dollars in a prepaid legal plan can pay off big-time if you ever find yourself in this situation.

Bankruptcy

Not only will you need a lawyer to file for bankruptcy, but an attorney’s representation can help you negotiate your way out of a consumer bind.

Consumer representation is one of the understated work an attorney can do.

From negotiating credit card debt to disputing certain charges, prepaid legal plans can provide an attorney who can represent you as a consumer.

IRS Audit

Whether you are a business or not, an IRS audit can ruin your finances.

Attorneys working through prepaid legal plans often find themselves representing individuals or businesses in IRS audit cases.

The IRS doesn’t waste their time with just any debtor, so when they come knocking, you better be ready with an attorney by your side.

Tax Issues

Why not avoid the IRS altogether?

Tax issues, from preparation to legal business questions, can involve tax attorneys just as much as accountants.

Prepaid legal plans often include attorneys who specialize in tax law.

Identity Theft

In a cybercrime world, identity theft is becoming more and more rampant.

All you did was go shopping at your favorite retailer. Sometimes you did nothing at all.

Then all of a sudden, your name is on a slew of credit cards unknown to you.

Identity theft has become such a problem that you can get separate insurance for it through some companies.

A prepaid legal attorney can help you take preventative measures so that an ID theft incident won’t rock your world.

A lawyer can also help you after the fact if you have suffered losses due to ID theft.

Can Legal Insurance Plans Save You Money?

With average plans costing anywhere from $15 to $50 a month, the potential savings are immense.

Legal fees, even for relatively innocuous services like legal advice over the phone or contract reviews, can add up to the thousands.

Having this lifeline covered can save you a fortune in hourly fees.

Additionally, the valuable advice you’ll receive can mean you avoid expensive mistakes by knowing what your legal standing is in any situation.

As with most insurance plans, there may be deductibles involved. Be prepared to spend up to a few hundred dollars for a deductible, depending on the program.

What Does Legal Insurance Not Cover?

Just like any insurance coverage, there are some limits to prepaid legal plans.

First of all, not every situation listed above gets automatic coverage via legal insurance.

It depends on your plan, so it’s essential to shop around to see what coverage you anticipate needing.

That said, most legal insurance plans don’t cover the following:

–Most divorce cases

–Suing an employer

–Cases involving someone who is insured by a similar legal insurance plan

–Worker’s compensation or unemployment compensation claims

–Most small claims court cases

–Class action lawsuits

Additionally, when it comes to legal advice, most prepaid legal insurance does not cover:

–Matters involving foreign, or non-U.S.-based law

–Advice on business matters if you are covered under a plan intended for an individual

–Post-retirement advice, if covered under an employer-based program

The Waiting Game

Also, don’t forget that most prepaid legal plans require you to pay into the program for some time before taking advantage of the benefits.

It’s not uncommon to have to wait six months or more before being able to use your plan.

Legal Insurance Companies

Some insurance companies offer prepaid legal plans as part of their services.

Many companies specializing in legal insurance exist, including:

–Legal Shield

–Legal Zoom

–Arag Legal

If you are a consumer searching for a legal plan, these are the first places you’ll look.

You will want to also check with your employer to see if they offer a prepaid legal service as a benefit.

If you are an attorney looking for leads, you can find legal plan leads here.

What To Look For In a Legal Insurance Policy

Now that you know the basics of what prepaid legal coverage is, what do you look for in a plan?

As an employee seeking coverage through your work, your options may be limited. Still, you will want to investigate to see what tiers are available.

As an individual shopper, you may have more options. Here is what to look for in a policy:

1. Affordable Deductible

A standard deductible for a self-paying individual can be around $250.

While this may sound steep, in the long run, it could potentially save you several hundred, even thousands in legal advice alone.

2. Network

How large is the attorney network?

Similar to health insurance, your legal insurance will include an area network of attorneys.

Examine the options you’ll have. Are you in an area where many attorneys are participating?

Often, the more attorneys who participate in the network, the more options you’ll have, and the more likely there will be help available when you need it.

3. Coverage

What legal coverage do you have? Some plans will cover more types of law than others.

If you go in anticipating what you might need, you’ll have a better sense of the plans that will work best for you.

Failure to Plan

If you are like the vast majority of Americans, you are not ready for a legal battle.

Legal insurance will help you prepare, affordably, for legal issues that you may not see coming.

Montreal, in the province of Quebec in Canada, is one of the most beautiful cities in the country, and possibly the whole of North America. Its culture has been hugely influenced by the French, be it language or architecture. In fact, Montreal is the second-largest city in the world where French is the primary language, after Paris. This should be enough to show the impact that the French have had on this city, and that influence is evident today as well. There are a number of beautiful destinations for people to take in during a visit to Montreal, and we’ve tried to talk about some of the best ones here.

Old Port of Montreal

This is one of the most historically-steeped places in the city – while the port in its current guise was opened in 1830, itself almost 200 years ago, there are indications that the area was used as a trading post by French fur traders as long ago as 1611. It is no longer Montreal’s primary port, with the Port of Montreal in the eastern part of the city serving that purpose, and so now it is used for recreational and tourist activities. The port area includes the Montreal Science Centre, which has an IMAX theatre as well, and the historic and beautiful Montreal Clock Tower. Being on the riverfront, people have picturesque views in front of them as they walk, cycle, or even roller-blade, with the port being found at the eastern end of the Lachine Canal, which was itself refurbished to make it a popular destination for cycling and roller-blading. There are boats available to go out into the canal as well, while the port area also hosts cultural events such as the Igloofest, the Matsuri Japon festival and the Festival Montreal en lumiere. The port area has the tallest ferris wheel in Canada, while there is also an urban beach next to the clock tower. With all of these attractions, it is no wonder that the Old Port is one of the most popular destinations in the city.

Montreal Casino

The casino, found on the Notre Dame Island in Montreal, is one of the biggest attractions for tourists and residents alike in the city. It is the largest real money casino in the entire country, and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is a huge structure, consisting of three interconnected buildings, while the gaming floor clocks in at over 12 acres, or 526,000 square feet. That is certainly a lot of room for a variety of casino games, and it is no surprise that the numbers make for staggering reading: more than 3,200 slot machines, over 115 gaming tables, and even more speed lotteries and virtual gaming machines can be found on the casino floor. As with any top-notch casino, there are also other entertainment facilities available on site, with the Montreal casino having three bars, four restaurants, banquet facilities, meeting rooms and a cabaret as well. It is extremely well-connected in terms of transport links, and thus this is an experience which every visitor, and resident of Montreal, should have at least once.

Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

The city also boasts the largest art museum in Canada, with the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts being the largest such museum in the country by gallery space. It is located on the iconic Golden Square Mile stretch of Sherbrooke Street, one of the most recognizable and famous areas of the city. The MMFA has over 140,000 square feet of exhibition space, with a total area of over 570,000 square feet. It is also the oldest museum in the country, being established in 1860. With some exceptional and exclusive collections available for art aficionados to admire, the MMFA is surely a must-visit destination for anybody in Montreal with even a passing interest in art.

Stay awake! How to Keep Yourself Awake when Driving Long Distances

We’ve all experienced the irresistible urge to close our eyes and let sleep take over, but when you’re behind the wheel, it’s not only enticing but downright terrifying! A huge number of car accidents, injuries and deaths on the road are directly caused by drivers failing to stay awake and remain alert behind the wheel – click here if you’ve been involved in a road accident involving a motorcycle.

And if you’re preparing to drive a long distance – whether for a road trip, holiday or even for work – then the idea of keeping yourself awake and alert whilst driving is concerning, to say the least.

To give you reassurance and guidance, I’ve gathered some straightforward tips for keeping yourself awake whilst driving long distances.

Plan your breaks (and stick to them)

Plan to take breaks for every couple of hours you’re driving on the road. When you’re planning your route, ensure that these stops are marked and that you stick to your plan. You’ll have time to take a break from concentrating and then return to the wheel refreshed, reset and ready to continue.

Plan to stay overnight

If possible, include an overnight stay in your plans, to ensure that you’re fully refreshed behind the wheel. If you’re travelling with kids, then they’ll love the added adventure of staying overnight somewhere different. And you’ll all be ready to hit the road again in the morning.

Pull over

Starting to feel tired? Pull over as soon as it is safe to do so. You could take a quick nap in the car, or simply get out and stretch your legs and your body to wake yourself up.

Drink caffeine (but not too much)

It’s much better to drink a little coffee at a time rather than huge cups before a journey, otherwise, you’re at risk of a post-caffeine slump, which ironically will make you even more tired.

Avoid heavy meals

Stopping off at a roadside café and enjoying a big breakfast or lunch will certainly set you up for the day, but a heavy meal will also leave you feeling sluggish and promote the desire to sleep. Keep your meals light and opt for healthier options. The same applies to your car snacks!

Crack the window

A nice warm interior, soft music and the low rumble of the tarmac beneath you can be enough for anyone to nod off. Keep yourself alert by cracking the window and giving yourself a supply of fresh air. If sleepiness persists, then pull over.

Even with all of the traveling we have done there are still some destinations we have missed. Many are small, out of the way places that could be easy to overlook, but one in particular stands out as a very big missing link in our chain of journeys… India.

When we got to thinking about going there the Taj Mahal jumped to mind, but as we dug a little deeper into our research we found that the Indian subcontinent is packed with many other marvelous monuments that easily rival that most famous mausoleum.

That led to us wondering what would be the best way to travel around in India to see them and Indigo was the airline that kept coming up. With flights to over six hundred cities we can get almost anywhere.

So we decided that we should begin with the World Heritage Site Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi, which while it is not as well known, is nearly as impressive as the TajMahal.

New Delhi is also home to the Hindu temple Swaminarayan Akshardham. This more modern landmark was opened in 2005 and features several unique attractions to go along with its spectacular architecture that is a blend of styles from all across the country.

We love boats, so the Sanskruti Vihar is definitely something we won’t want to miss. This twelve minute boat ride travels through ten thousand years of India’s history using state of the art robotics to depict life in the Vedic Age.

The temple also houses Delhi’s first and only large format screen theatre, showing the movie Mystic India. The film chronicles the pilgrimage of Swaminarayan across Indian subcontinent as an adolescent.

Before leaving Delhi we would certainly want to stop at the Bahá’í Lotus Temple as well. This is another modern marvel and is modeled after a lotus blossom.

After that we could book a flight ticket to the city of Junagadh for a visit to the Mahabat Maqbara. This magnificent mausoleum holds the tomb of Bahaduddinbhai Hasainbhai and incorporates elements of Islamic, Gothic, and European design.

Heading back up north to Agra we could finish up at the Crown of the Palace, the Taj Mahal. Made of white marble, the mausoleum dates back to 1632, when it was commissioned by the emperor Shah Jahan.

UNESCO has called it “the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage.” We just call it one of the last major items to check off of our bucket list.

As we investigated Indian culture further, we discovered a few traditions that could come in handy when we travel to India.

First, it is important to take off your shoes when entering all mosques, churches, and temples. While this is common for mosques throughout the world, in India it is considered rude not to remove footwear in any house of worship.

We will also want to perfect our Namaste, meaning I bow to you. This is perhaps the most popular of all Indian customs and is one of the five traditional forms of greeting that are mentioned in the ancient Hindu scriptures.

Lastly, we were excited to learn that it is almost always time for a festival in India. Because the country is home to so many diverse religions and groups, celebrations happen all throughout the year.

We can hardly wait to join in ourselves.

An Easier Path to Learning a Second Language

If you tried to learn a new language as an adult, and had learned a second language as a child, you might think back and say, “gee, it was so much easier when I was a kid.” Now, lots of things were easier when we were kids and far more agile; but, there’s more to the story than just getting older. When you learn a language at a young age, not all the synapses have been formed. It seemed easier because it was easier. Have you ever noticed how your brain must first do a translation before speaking the foreign words? It’s almost as if a middleman entered in the learning process as you got older, making it more difficult to become fluent quickly.

When a baby is born, only ten percent of the brain synapses have been formed and the brain is at 25% of the adult brain size. Synapses are rapidly forming during those first few years of life. The brain performs a constant forming and pruning process of synapses, depending on which ones are used. That’s why learning a language at a young age will build synapses that optimize the child’s ability to speak and understand a foreign language. Understanding this process and taking advantage of this vital time allows parent to instill great skill in their kids at a young age and fosters the greatest chances of success.

As children, we can hear a foreign language, understand the words in that language and respond in that language with far more ease. But there is still another part of the experience that makes language learning more successful as a child – being submerged in that language. That’s what we refer to as language immersion.

Today, the most effective second language classes are taught to children using immersion techniques to facilitate the learning process and at an incredibly young age! Even toddlers can begin learning a second language in an immersive format.

What a typical Immersion Class Includes:

For the toddlers:

Mommy and me class format for the youngest, aged 1 – 3
Indoor and outdoor play
Dialogue spoken 100% in second language
Music and crafts

For young children:

Children up to age 12
Arts & Crafts
Music
Drama
Storytelling
Outdoor Activities

Immersion classes are most effective when they occur often. For instance, this Spanish preschool curriculum runs their program two hours a day every weekday.

These days, many schools are offering classes online until such time it is deemed safe to hold classes in the classroom environment again. However, even online, the kids can interact with other students in the classroom. Indeed, some may have more trouble paying attention from their homes, but that is par for the course during this unusual virus epidemic. Indeed, when classes resume as normal in the fall, many instructors will have to do intense reviews and modify the way they present course material to bring their students up to speed.

Long Term Effects

There are obvious benefits to learning a second language – the ability to communicate with people who speak it, greater comprehension of Latin-based vocabulary, and cultural enrichment. But there are even benefits down the line when the child grows older. Kids who learn a second language at a young age improve their cognitive skills and ability to learn, and retain what they learn, throughout their school years.

For any parent wanting to provide enrichment for their child or improve that child’s ability to succeed in life, enrolling that child in an immersion classroom setting from a young age is an easy way to give that child a learning advantage. Up until the time of puberty, a child has the greatest opportunity to learn and master a foreign language. Of course, this is just one of the many skills a child can master if taught at an early age. Foreign language learning boosts memory and listening skills – skills that are essential all throughout the education years and beyond.

At Home Reinforcement

Naturally, parents can assist in the process by offering kids additional activities at home. These activities may not replace the immersion class opportunity but serve to give the child a chance to practice skills he or she already learned. Making the second language fun is what keeps the child interested in learning and if the activity is done with a parent, it’s also additional time that child gets attention from the parent. That is its own form of positive reinforcement.
