No Traveling? No Problem

This coronavirus quarantine has affected everyone across the globe. It is especially difficult for those of us who love to travel. If you are used to being able to get up and take off for Hawaii, the Bahamas, or even an African safari, knowing that you are stuck at home can be a major bummer. It is like being a child who is grounded. No! You can’t go outside! Because I said so, that’s why! Seriously, staying home is just like punishment to some people. Even if you love your home, for those who love to travel, staying put is like a prison sentence.

How about a virtual vacation?

Yes, you can take a vacation from home. It won’t even cost you a penny. That is one awesome thing about the COVID-19 crisis is that we are saving money by staying home. It does not cost you anything to get on your computer and look at some photographs of places that you really want to visit. In fact, you can zoom in on all kinds of places and see things you would not be able to see even if you were there in person. You can get up close and personal with wild critters at many of the zoos around the world. Do some virtual surfing with a beach cam. And you can even get some views of Mars from NASA’s Curiosity Rover. If you like theme parks, you can go on just about any of their websites and do a virtual tour and even get a front seat virtual ride on some of the scariest roller coasters and other fun rides.

Play Some Games

If you have kids at home, play some games. Video games or board games, it does not matter. Take a trip down memory lane with Monopoly or Life with the family or try to beat your teens at one of their crazy zombie-killing video games. For those little ones who are bored too, how about a scavenger hunt? This is fun for you too. You can hide strange things around the house and ask the kids to find them. A nickel, a blue pen, a picture of the dog, whatever you have handy. You can also go outside with this idea. Some things they can find, for example, would be a small rock, three twigs or sticks, a yellow flower. Have fun!

Talk to a Professional

If you are feeling overwhelmed or more sad than usual, talk to someone. Even if you don’t want to talk to your family or friends about it, there are people you can talk to who are trained to help in these situations. For example, you can do online counseling with BetterHelp anytime, day or night, from home with no appointment. These licensed counselors are experienced in all types of mental health issues and can help you with whatever you are feeling.

Enjoy the Time

Until this social distancing is over with, take advantage of the closeness of family. Or the solitude to do your thing without being bothered by work, shopping, and other errands you cannot do right now. Read a book, enjoy a bath, or take a nap. These are the little things you have been wanting to do but did not have the time to do before. Enjoy!
