Yoga is pretty important to me. I have been doing it for longer than I can even remember, or perhaps care to remember these days. So there have been quite a few times that I thought about taking a yoga retreat, but I never found a place that really called out to me. I think that has changed.
I have discovered a spot where I can combine my love of yoga with my passion for travel and my affinity for islands, Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands. Better yet, I found a Hotel with yoga classes in Corralejo, the town at the northern tip of the island.
SYNERGY, at Buendía Corralejo, offers a nice variety of activities specifically designed to help you stay fit, and each one can be individually tailored to meet each guest’s needs and desires. Their team of professionals can help with a wide range of activities beyond just yoga. There are active and fun classes in dance and pilates, personalized workouts, and even prenatal and postnatal training.
Pair that up with EQUILIBRIO, where the focus is on three fundamental areas of health: body mechanics, nutrition, and psycho-behavioral. The the goal is to improve over all health and well-being using a variety of treatments and massages. Alejandro, the resident physiotherapist, osteopath, and expert in myofascial chains, will help you pursue a holistic approach to care, as he combines biomechanics, nutrition, and psychological aspects working to bring your body, mind, and spirit into complete harmony.
With all of this available, it is easy to see why I love the idea of a yoga and wellness retreat at the Buendía Corralejo hotel. Or I should say no-hotel, since that is what they like to call themselves. Why a no-hotel? Because it is much more than just a hotel, it is a wonderful collection of apartments with sea views in Fuerteventura.
The units are spacious and breezy, with a private terrace, balcony, or solarium featuring either a panoramic seascape overlooking the picturesque Isla de Lobos, or a view out onto the pool in the spacious central courtyard of the no-hotel. Perfect for drying off after a swim or trip to the beach, or for those of us who just like to enjoy fresh air and outdoor living.
They also come with a well equipped kitchen, which I love because there are many times while traveling that I would rather go to the local market and discover fresh, local ingredients to try out for a little home cooking than to eat another meal in a restaurant. There is also one of my very favorite things to find in any hotel, or no-hotel, a coffee maker, plus a hairdryer, iron, and ironing board.
And for my fellow digital nomads, every apartment has high-speed Wi-Fi available, along with television including international channels, so we will never miss an email, story, post, or photo.
I just realized that I haven’t mentioned David so far, but there are plenty of things for him to do too. Maybe he can try out some Surf lessons in Corralejo. Hope he has better luck than when he tried in Australia.
And I’m sure he will be happy exploring the wonderful island of Fuerteventura, making a mess in the kitchen, or just hanging out at the beach or by the pool.
I seriously doubt that I can get him to join me in any of the yoga classes, but I’ll bet I can interest him in a massage.
Baby steps.
