Austin, Texas, one of the fastest growing cities in America, is noted for its rich cultural life and its educational opportunities. Those living or moving to the Austin area certainly won’t miss out on any opportunities to engage in a round or two of golf. The city is home to some of the finest courses in the country, and memberships are available at both private courses and courses operated by the city.
Avery Ranch Golf Club
If you’re asking if there are any golf club memberships near me, the answer is a definite yes. One of the best golf courses offering memberships in Austin is the Avery Ranch Golf Club located at 10500 Avery Club Drive.
This club’s course was designed by a course designer who worked for golfing legend Jack Nicklaus. The 18th tee was voted the best closing hole of any course in the Austin area.
A membership at the Avery Ranch Golf Club also grants the holder membership to the Teravista Golf Club in nearby Round Rock, TX. The Teravista course is noted for its excellently maintained greens.
Members receive access to two other courses, the JL Lewis Golf Academy and special member rates at two restaurants. Members may also book private banquet facilities.
City Course Membership
A number of Austin’s golf courses are operated by the Austin Parks and Recreation Association. These courses are Jimmy Clay, Morris Williams, Lions, Hancock, Roy Kizer and Grey Rock. While city residents are able to play these courses without a membership, an optional membership package allows for a heavy discount on play at these courses.
The Silver Level offers for discounted play at all courses except Grey Rock. Surcharges are waived at all courses except Grey Rock at the Gold Level. At the Platinum Level access is available with no green fees or surcharges at all courses including Grey Rock. At the Platinum Level, unlimited range balls are available, and members can book tee time seven days a week.
University of Texas Golf Club
The University of Texas Golf Club is located at 2200 University Club Drive in Austin. This is a par 71 course with a total length of 7,412 yards. This course has hosted the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships in 2012.
Members also have access to the golf course and the tennis facilities in the club, and may also access a large, recreational swimming pool complex that was built in 2013. There is also a private dining facility for to members only.
Falconhead Golf Club
The Falconhead golf course is designed similarly to the courses that are found on the PGA Tour. The many hills and hazards make for quite a challenge.
There are several membership levels at Falconhead. The basic membership, Weekday, allows members to play Monday through Friday at no charge. At this level, members can play after 12pm on the weekends, but there is a reduced rate charge.
The Classic Membership level allows for play any day of the week at all times. Reservations for play time can be made up to ten days in advance.
