We have almost always traveled a lot. When we were younger, David was on the road almost constantly as a part of his work, and we tried to take the kids to interesting new places as often as possible when he wasn’t. Then, since becoming empty-nesters and creating GypsyNester.com we have managed to cover over sixty countries on six continents. With all of that, we have stayed in a whole bunch of hotel rooms over the years.
But sometimes, especially when you travel as much as we do, you want to stay someplace different. Somewhere that is more than the average hotel. Not just a hotel, but a No-Hotel. That is one reason we were so excited to find just such a place in the Canary Islands that is a great example of a No-Hotel in Corralejo.
Unlike a conventional hotel, Buendía Corralejo is a collection of apartments with sea views that overlook the stunning Isla de Lobos or a quiet inner courtyard, and all of them have a private terrace or balcony. These lovely accommodations feel more like a fully equipped vacation home than a hotel.
They all also include a well equipped kitchen, which we love because often we prefer to do a little home cooking rather than always eating in a restaurant. Of course Wi-Fi, a coffee maker, a hairdryer, and an iron and ironing board are also included.
But as great as all of that sounds, that’s not why we travel. We want to see new places and try new experiences, which is perfect because Fuerteventura and the Canary Islands have a ton of fun, interesting, and even challenging things to do.
So we are thinking about trying our skills with surf lessons in Fuerteventura. Everything we will need, like boards and wet suits, is available at Point Break Watersports, which means that we don’t have to pack any big, bulky stuff in our luggage.
And if it turns out that surfing is not our thing, we can try kitesurfing, paddleboarding, or windsurfing as an alternative adventure. Or we could opt for a more relaxed option and just bask in the sun on the terrace, or take a dip in the pool, or maybe enjoy a romantic sunset stroll along the beach. The idea is that there is something for everyone at Buendía Corralejo.
In fact, they are located in one of the most magical places in Fuerteventura. Everything is right at our fingertips with rooms are right by the sea and only a five-minute walk to the old town. This means that there is no need for a car, taxis, or buses. We love that, because when we travel we want to explore and Grandes Playas, the fish market, and sand dunes are all only an easy walk or bike ride away.
If that doesn’t seem to be enough to keep everyone fit and loose, there is always yoga. SYNERGY, at Buendía Corralejo, offers an array of activities specially created to keep us all toned. Best of all, they can each be customized to meet everybody’s needs and desires.
Not into yoga? No worries, because there are plenty of other alternatives for fun, active activities such as dance and pilates classes, or personalized workouts. Or better yet, how about a massage or beauty treatment?
