A Quick Guide to Selecting the Best Backpack for Your Travels

Backpacks are a hugely popular item and as such there are a wide selection on the market from various high street and online retailers. They come in a range of sizes, colors shapes and styles and there will be a backpack to suit all budgets. Some of the budget versions look good but if you are looking for a waterproof quality or certain security features, you should be prepared to pay more for your pack, so what should you be looking for?

If your travels, this guide are likely to involve walking or hiking where you are going to be carrying your backpack for long periods, comfort is going to be of the essence. There are some good sturdy framed rucksacks that will provide you with support and comfort. If you are likely to be travelling in adverse weather conditions, you may require that your backpack is waterproof. Most of the outdoor rucksacks come with multi compartments and pockets and items including sleeping bags or stoves can be attached. For this type of backpack, you need to make sure that it is a comfortable fit for you. Not all backpacks are comfortable for everyone as we are all a different shape and size so try the backpack on, take along some equipment and pop it in the pack so that you will be able to tell if it is a good fit for you, there is nothing worse than an uncomfortable backpack, it can really spoil your travel.

If you are travelling abroad, it may be a good option to combine your travel bag with a day bag and a backpack could be a good choice for that. If you are using your backpack for carry on luggage, you must remember to make sure that you are within the airline’s size and weight dimensions as guidelines are now strictly adhered to by the airlines. You may want pockets and compartments so that you can separate your items and so that your expensive laptop for example is afforded protection from your water or juice. It may also be the case that you will have to consider security and there are some anti theft backpacks on the market which are made of a specially robust material which cannot be cut as often pickpockets will look to cut the pack rather than open it. Some also have hidden zips and padlock options.

If you are travelling somewhere warm, you may consider a backpack with a ‘cool compartment’ for your drinks. Some backpacks have detachable pockets and compartments which can make them a very versatile option for all sorts of trips.

As well as being practical, your backpack needs to be comfortable, so look around and decide on the length, the width, whether you prefer the one strap option or either you would prefer two.

The color and style may be important features so by shopping around you should be able to find what you are looking for. You do not have to spend a great deal of money to be able to obtain a stylish backpack but certain features may cost more.

There is no point in buying a huge backpack when a small one will do and there is no point in paying for a lot of anti theft features or waterproof material if you are not going to need the features.
