Unique Experiences To Enjoy In Baja California Sur, Mexico

One of the most diverse and popular regions to travel around in Mexico, Baja California Sur is a very special place to visit.

Here we can walk along golden sand beaches and enjoy a near-perfect climate most months of the year, whilst also soaking up the atmosphere of destinations like Cabo San Lucas and nearby La Paz. However there are also many incredible lesser-known experiences to enjoy too. This includes going deep-sea fishing, visiting remote national parks and even going on a desert ATV tour – all of which allow for a more unique and less-crowded experience during your vacation.

In this guide we’ll explore the very best unique experiences that you can enjoy when in Baja California Sur, how to organize them as well as other local tips so you can have the most memorable time in this Mexican region.

5 Unique Experiences To Enjoy In Baja California Sur, Mexico

Let’s now take a look at some of the most unique experiences you can have in Baja California Sur, which will help to make your trip even more memorable.

Go Deep Sea Fishing In Cabo San Lucas

One of the very best fishing destinations in all of North America, Cabo is no stranger to fishing competitions and tours. Here we can reel in the majestic Blue Marlin, amongst other popular species like the Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna and Wahoo. Whilst shared tours can sometimes be busy, you can also head on a private Cabo fishing tour too which allows for a more secluded and peaceful experience. The best months for fishing are from July until October – although all months have their own unique species and particular advantages.

Visit Espíritu Santo Island From La Paz

Heading out of Cabo is a good idea during your trip, given it can feel quite busy most hours of the day. La Paz is a sleepier option just a couple of hours away, and from here we can visit the legendary Espíritu Santo Island. Home to one of Mexico’s most beautiful beaches (Balandra Beach), here we can relax on empty shorelines and even get to swim with a colony of Sea Lion residents. The waters here are also crystal-clear given they are within the Gulf of Mexico – making it a perfect place to go snorkelling.

Head On A Memorable Party Boat Experience

If you’re in Cabo San Lucas and are looking to live life to the full, you’ll find no shortage of awesome bars, nightclubs and restaurants all at your disposal. There are also party boats too, however most are usually shared big boats that take a short route around before heading back. We highly suggest heading on a private bachelorette Cabo boat tour with All Ways Cabo Boats, where you can have full freedom as you enjoy drinks out on the Mexican Pacific. Unlike fishing seasons which can vary – this experience is ideal pretty much all months of the year!

Enjoy A Sand Buggy Dune Ride

One of the more surprising activities we can do here in Baja, the La Paz Sand Dunes are located just a short ride away from the city of the same name. This is a great way to change things up during our time here, and especially so as most itineraries focus on hitting the beaches or visiting restaurants and nightlife. Here you’ll be able to head out on your very own ATV and get some memorable thrills in these remote sandy plains!

Head On A Day Trip To The Parque Nacional Cabo Plumo

Although we can find some really great Cabo snorkeling tours, there’s also other great low-key options to explore within the region. This includes the Parque Nacional Cabo Plumo, which is located right on the extreme south-east tip of the peninsula. Here the waters are calmer and are much easier for spotting exotic marine wildlife, and will have fewer crowds too. You can easily organize a trip here from Cabo San Lucas, and again the waters are ideal here pretty much all months of the year.

Local Tips To Have The Best Time Possible In Baja California Sur

It’s important to know that different seasons can really vary that type of experience that you have in Baja California Sur. The dry season (which runs from November until April) has the very best weather and no rainfall, although crowds and prices will be higher. We instead recommend visiting during the shoulder season months (October and May), which are quieter with great weather

When visiting Baja California Sur, it’s also good to head outside of Cabo regardless of the season. The city is pretty busy most months of the year, and the surrounding region offers a great chance to rest and connect with the true culture of this Mexican region. La Paz, San José del Cabo and Todos Santos offer more laidback scenes to relax in, which are also close to other worthwhile sites such as the Isla Espíritu Santo and Parque Nacional Cabo Plumo.
