There’s much to love about visiting a city, but it’s always worth remembering that there is another type of vacation that you can take: a trip into the great outdoors! This is a beautiful planet that we’re living on, and you’ll only really appreciate that fact to the maximum once you’re deep in the beautiful scenery. Plus, studies have shown that spending time in nature can give your mood a boost, and of course, it helps to keep you fit, too. Below, we take a look at a few essential tips that’ll help you enjoy your adventure to the fullest.
Choose Your Destination Wisely
Cities all copy each other, more or less, but nature is different. You can take a drive one hour away from one natural environment, and find that you’re in an entirely different type of environment. Before planning your trip, think about what type of outdoor space you’re looking for. Do you want to be in a mountainous landscape? Are rolling hills and valleys more your thing? Or are you all about the coast? Each brings different benefits and have different physical requirements. It’s best to take a look at a few different landscapes and find the one that you’re most drawn to.
And the Time of Year
As well as where you go, you’ll want to think about when you go. You might want to take a trip to, say, Yosemite National Park, but you’ll quickly find that there’s a big difference in the experience of a trip during winter and during the summer. You’ll have freezing temperatures and snow on the ground during winter. In the summer, it’ll be t-shirt and shorts weather. There’s magic in both! Pay particular attention to the time of the year if you’re visiting an overseas country or an area you’re not familiar with; there can be cold weather even during spring in some places, especially in the mountains.
Get the Equipment
In order to enjoy your outdoor adventure to the max, you’ll need to have some equipment. We’ve come a long way in this department in recent years. Now, we have the clothing and equipment needed to experience the outdoors in comfort. At a minimum, it’s a good idea to have breathable clothing and comfortable hiking boots — they really do make a difference. If you want a little bit of help on your walk, then trekking poles can help you. Take a look at the weather before you travel, and pack the appropriate seasonal clothing, such as a hat or extra warm jacket.
Hints of Luxury
The outdoors can be a little uncomfortable from time to time. And alas, it’s this slight discomfort that puts people off. You can get around — or at least neutralize — this feeling by adding slices of luxury to your trip. Being in the outdoors doesn’t mean doing everything in a rustic way! Treat yourself to a hotel, hearty meal, and other slices of comfort, and you’ll enjoy your trip into nature all the more.
