Packing to go on holiday is always a little stressful and confusing. What do you need? What can you leave? Are you overpacking? Have you forgotten something? The worst feeling is getting to your destination only to realize you forgot some essentials at home.
Packing for leisure always requires more items than packing for business. When you pack for business, you only need the essentials and you usually travel light. When you pack for a holiday, you want to bring comfort items and things to help you stay entertained while you’re away.
If you’re packing for a holiday and you’re not sure if you’re over- or underpacking, check out this list of 6 things I always take with me while on holiday:
1. My Kindle
My Kindle is a must for any holiday that I go on. I am an avid reader of books, magazines, and newspapers alike. So, before I had my kindle, I would have an entire separate backpack or tote full of reading material. After about twenty minutes at the airport, my shoulders were killing me. It’s just not practical to bring that many individual items.
Enter the Kindle. Now I have my books, magazines, and newspaper all available on a slim, easy-to-carry device that can fit easily in a carry-on, a purse, or luggage. My Kindle keeps me entertained on plane rides or car rides and can easily come with me to the beach, on picnics, or wherever I go.
2. Kool8 Water Bottle
Packing a refillable water bottle is always a good idea, especially if you’re trying to avoid single-use plastics or unnecessary spending. The kool8 bottle is the perfect companion for your travels.
It is made of steel and has a sturdy design so that you can leave it in your luggage, carry it with you in your carry-on, or bring it with you on any of your adventures. Its double-walled design can keep your beverages hot or cold for hours. It even comes with a built-in tea infuser for easy brewing and transportation.
This water bottle is creating so much buzz that it even made this list of best birthday gifts for her. If you don’t already have a sturdy refillable water bottle to take with you, I definitely recommend kool8.
3. An Outlet Adapter
An outlet adapter is essential if you are traveling out of the country. Keeping your electronics charged, like your cell phone, kindle, laptop, is important. If you’re traveling to a new country, do some research to find out what kind of electrical plugs they use so that you can be prepared.
If you want to really cover your bases, you can purchase an adapter kit that comes with several interchangeable outlets. This will make sure that you’re prepared for any kind of travel.
4. Travel Robe
This one is a total comfort item. If you’re heading out on holiday to relax and recover from the stresses of everyday life, packing travel robes will have you feeling like you’re on a luxurious spa retreat (and maybe you are!)
My husband and I pack our his and her travel robes any time we go on a relaxing holiday. I know most hotels and spas will offer you a robe with your room, but who knows who has worn it before you, what they wore underneath it, and how well it was washed. No, thanks.
But, I still want the option to spend half the morning sitting around in a robe sipping coffee and ordering room service. Packing my own travel robe lets me enjoy that experience without being concerned about cleanliness.
5. Headphones
You don’t want to get stuck on a flight or in public transportation without a pair of headphones. Today, people listen to music or podcasts every time they travel. Without a good pair of headphones, you’re stuck listening to the conversation of the people seated around you or the crying baby four rows up.
Save yourself the frustration and make sure that you pack a good pair of headphones. This will also come in handy if you’ve downloaded or digitally rented any movies or tv shows to watch. Using headphones is courteous to the people around you who probably don’t want to listen to the audio of your show.
I always pack my noise-canceling headphones specifically. Not only do they let you listen to music, tv shows, and/or podcast without disturbing your neighbor, they help block out noise from the people around you. This will allow you to totally tune out your surroundings and have a more peaceful traveling experience.
6. Mocha protein coffee
Protein coffee is perfect for a breakfast on the go or an afternoon boost. For those of you who use holidays to explore and go on new adventures, you need something that can keep up with you.
Protein coffee from complete nutrition is a great option because it gives you a caffeine boost from real, Maine roast coffee while giving you sustained energy from protein powder.
There are a lot of benefits to drinking protein coffee. For someone on holiday, the main benefits are that it increases alertness and stamina. Protein coffee will give you the boost you need in the morning or around 3:00 pm lull so that you can get up and get the most out of your day.
Most of us go on holiday to get away from stress at home and at work. We want to completely kick back and not worry about a thing. In order to have the best holiday possible, it’s important that you pack the right things for yourself. While this list contains some of my essentials, your list may be different. The bottom line is, you should prioritize the things that bring you the most joy. There are no hard rules.
