3 Amazing Must-See Locations in South Australia

When people think of Australian holiday destinations, South Australia is a popular choice for many reasons. There is a wealth of natural beauty in South Australia that has to be seen to believed. From wonderful islands and great surfing to relaxed cruises along the Murray River, there’s so much to see and do. Maybe treating yourself to an afternoon of the country’s finest food and wine while exploring the beautiful South Australian landscape is more your scene?

There’s a lot of reasons why South Australia is one of Australia’s premier holiday destinations, and here’s just a few of them.

Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is one of the true gems of Australian tourism. In fact, it’s home to some of the most breathtaking scenery you’d ever hope to find. It’s not short on activities either!

For the adventurous travellers, you’ll be spoilt for choice with plenty of activities including paintball, sandboarding, kayaking, caving, quad biking, bike riding and plenty more.

The island is also home to more than 23 different hikes, which range from 30 minutes to 8 hours. You can even go on multi-day adventures exploring the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail. Animal lovers will also love the opportunity to spot some of the local wildlife either while hiking, or at any of the wonderful animal sanctuaries.

However, if relaxing is a bit more your scene, there’s plenty for you to do as well. The pristine beaches are absolutely amazing for snorkelling, swimming, relaxing or simply taking a sunset stroll.

We should also mention the food. Packed with restaurants and cellar doors, you’ll find a whole host of gourmet local food and wine to satisfy all of your senses. No matter what your preferred taste, you’ll find it all on the stunning Kangaroo Island.

Barossa Valley

Many people think of the Barossa Valley as one of Australia’s leading wine producing regions. They’d be right of course, but a Barossa Valley experience is about much more than just wine. The scenery in the area alone is worth the trip, but when you’re throw in delicious food and wine, its pretty hard to resist!

You can explore a huge network of wineries and food venues, while checking out the beautiful towns in the region. Check out the German hueffendorf village of Bethany, or even the quaint old English town of Angaston.

Wine tours are aplenty in the region, allowing you to experience several different settings in a single day. While you can of course make your own way, we recommend finding a wine tour, because nobody wants to be the designated driver for this experience!

Murray River

Cruising along the iconic Murray River is one of the quintessential Australian experiences. You can choose from a range of different vessels, from traditional paddle boats like the Murray Princess, or the more boutique style of the smaller Proud Mary.

You can depart from Adelaide in South Australia and take a cruise ranging from 2-7 nights. You’ll be entertained, comfortable, and most of all in awe of the spectacular landscape as you cruise down the Murray River in style.

So, if you’re visiting South Australia, these are just a few of the major attractions. There’s plenty more to see though, so give yourself time to explore the whole wonderful state. You’ll be glad you did!
