Have you decided that it is time to update your tech and go for a new phone? It seems that we tend to upgrade our phones fairly regularly. Most mobile phone contracts are eligible for upgrades after two years, and most people will take up this option. After all, why wouldn’t you want a brand new, shiny mobile phone? However, you need to consider what you are going to do with the phone you won’t be using anymore, and that is why we have put this helpful and informative guide together.

Protecting yourself

There are two chief areas of concern when it comes to disposing of your current phone and buying a new one. The first thing you need to consider is your own personal safety. Issues like identity theft and credit card fraud are rife at the moment, and so it is critical to make sure that you do not allow your old phone to get into the wrong hands. We will provide a little bit of further information on this below and how to prepare your phone if you are going to give it to someone else. However, it is so critical to make sure you never hand your phone over to someone else without clearing everything off it first.

Protecting the environment

Not only do you need to think about disposing of your new phone in a manner that is safe for you, but you also need to consider the environment as well. Electronic waste is one of the most dangerous forms of waste. It can cause huge damage to the nature around us, as well as the human beings that live close to these landfills, a lot of which are in Africa. If you read up online about electronic waste landfills, it really does make pretty terrifying reading.

Recycling your phone

The first option that we would always recommend you consider is recycling your phone. If your phone still works, there is no reason why you should throw it in the bin. Someone else could get plenty of use from it. You may want to consider selling your phone on the likes of eBay, or there are dedicated companies established that will purchase old phones as well, so all of these options are worth looking into. Or, why not donate your old mobile phone to someone who is less fortunate than you?

Before you recycle your phone, though, make sure that you clear everything effectively. You will want to start off by reading this guide on how to transfer photos from iPhone to Mac. Once you have uploaded all of your documents and photos to the cloud so that they are safely stored, you can then wipe your phone. It is important to make sure that your phone is wiped to factory settings. The last thing you want is for someone to receive a phone that is filled with all of your private data. Identity theft is rife at the moment, so it is not being over-cautious to say that you need to be very careful.

When recycling your phone is not an option

If it is not possible for you to recycle your phone, for example, if it is broken, then you need to think about the other options that are available to you. There are a lot of companies that will offer to purchase your phone or take it off your hands because they will use the parts that are inside of it. If not, it is important to note that companies selling mobile phones and other gadgets should offer a take-back service. With this service, you should be able to give your phone to them and they will dispose of it in the most eco-friendly manner. Information like this should be available on the company website but, if it is not, simply drop the company an email to find out more.

Final words on what to do when you do not need your mobile phone anymore

All things considered, there is no denying that we all need to be more conscious about the world around us and how our actions impact it. This is definitely the case when it comes to disposing of electronic equipment we do not need anymore, like mobile phones. We hope that the information and advice that we have provided you with above will assist with this so you can dispose of your mobile phone in a safe and effective manner.

Buying a Home? Make Sure to Follow These Steps

There is a lot to think about when it comes to buying a home. But considering this is the biggest investment you’re likely to make in your life, it’s more than worth it…
CONTINUE READING >>

Looking to save for a house? You’ve got a lot of different things to look ahead to. Here are some of the most important areas to focus on throughout this process!

Know Your Budget

The first step you’re going to need to take when it comes to buying a house is understanding what you can genuinely afford to spend on a property. Sure, a home is generally the biggest outgoing that the majority of us have. Rent and mortgage payments tend to be much larger than any other payment that comes out of our bank account. But you need to make sure that you can afford to live around the actual cost of your property. First, you’ll need generally living costs around your payments, such as council tax, energy bills, water bills, insurance policies like home warranty policies, car payments and more. Then, you’ll need money to actually enjoy yourself. Sure, it may be tempting to have a nicer house, even if it wipes out your disposable income. But mortgages generally last 25 years or longer. You need to do things you enjoy – go out to eat, visit the theatre, visit friends, have nights out, purchase things you enjoy. So, make sure to set yourself a clear and realistic budget. The best and easiest way to go about this is to take the following steps.

    • Work out your total income – first and foremost, you need to work out your total income after All too many people think that their salary is their income. But tax deductions and other payments are either made before your money hits your bank account or, if you’re self-employed, you’ll need to deduct it and save it to pay yourself. Instead, you need to make sure you understand how much your take home pay is – ie. how much you actually have available to spend. Remember, the amount of tax you have to pay will depend on the tax bracket you fall into. There are plenty of easy to use online calculators that will figure out how much of your salary will be deducted for taxes and how much you’ll actually have to keep.
    • Deduct essential costs – the next step to take is to deduct essential costs. These are the things you need to pay to lead a good quality of life. Others may call them necessities or essential spends. Make sure to include things like council tax, bill payments for energy, water payments, weekly or monthly grocery shopping and any payments you may need to put out on contracts, such as car payments, insurance, and credit card or loan payments.
    • The leftovers – the money that’s left over will be split between your mortgage and your personal spending. So, you need to determine how much you’d like to dedicate to a mortgage and how much you’d like left over as disposable income to enjoy yourself each month. The figure that you’re left with for your mortgage is your mortgage budget!

Once you know your mortgage budget, there are then plenty of free mortgage calculators out there that will be able to tell you how much you’ll end up paying each month for a property of X value. Use these to determine what value property you can afford for your budget! This will then allow you to start saving a deposit, as you’ll know what size deposit you’ll need to save, and to start browsing the market for potential options.

Saving a Deposit

The next step is generally to save a mortgage deposit. This, of course, can feel pretty difficult. Mortgage deposits are expensive and it can take some time and a whole lot of determination and self control to actually save towards them. Generally speaking, the average deposit will be between 10 and 15% of a property’s overall value. There are alternatives out there. You may find a 0% deposit, or you may find that you want to put down a larger deposit in order to reduce your monthly mortgage payments. Regardless of how much you’re going to need to save, here are some tips that will help you to save it!

Open a LISA

The first step to take when saving towards a deposit is to choose a savings account. Sure, you could save your money in a regular bank account, but this isn’t generally the best idea. While a bank account will simply store your money for you, there are a number of protected savings accounts out there that will give you interest for storing your money with them. Generally, the highest interest savings account for those saving for a mortgage is a LISA, also know as a “lifetime ISA”. A LISA has a high interest rate in exchange for you building up the money in the account without withdrawing. Most LISAs will have terms and conditions regarding withdrawals made for anything other than buying a house. You could find that you incur fines or fees for withdrawing for any reason other than buying a property. However, if you’re 100% certain that you will be using your savings on a home, this is by far the best option, as you’ll receive high interest without having to worry about the fees and fines.

Saving Quickly

Next, you’re going to be wondering how to save quickly. You have your savings account set up and you’re going to want to put as much money into it as possible. There are a number of things you can do to save quickly. Here are just a few to consider.

    • Overtime – if your work offers overtime, you could take it to get some extra money each month. This overtime pay can be deposited directly from your bank account into your savings account. You won’t have to compromise on the money you’d usually spend each month. Instead, you’ll just have an extra stream of income contributing to your savings.
    • Selling old belongings – most of us have old or unwanted belongings that we simply don’t need. Why not consider selling these? This will provide you with some money that you can also add directly to your savings account.

House Hunting

Saved your deposit? It’s time to start house hunting! This is perhaps the most exciting part of the entire process, as you are getting closer to actually securing the keys to your own property. Now, before you dive right in the deep end and start actually viewing properties, it’s really important to ask yourself a few important questions that will help you to whittle down your options and only view properties that you may actually want to live in.

Do I want to live close to my workplace?

First, do you want to live close to your work? For some people, this is an essential, as they’ll want to reduce the morning and evening commute. For others, it’s not really that important. Perhaps you work from home. Maybe you’re only in one or two days a week. You may find that you simply want to get away from your work out of hours, or you don’t particularly like the area that your workplace is located within. When choosing a home, make sure to determine what your commute (if you have one) will be like and whether you’re willing to go ahead with this.

Do I want to live close to friends and family?

Another question is whether you want to live close to friends and family. If they all live in one area, do you want to live within that area? Do you want space? Do you want convenience? Would moving closer to parents help with childcare? This is another important decision that can reduce travel time or help to create boundaries, according to your needs.

Do I need to live close to good schools?

If you have children, or are planning on having children in the near future, you may need to consider living in an area with good schools nearby. Being close to good schools can place you and your children in the catchment area, guaranteeing a good placement.

Does the area have good public transport links?

Do you use public transport? If you do, you may need to consider living in areas that have nearby and good public transport links. Moving to the countryside without a car can result in feelings of isolation or an inability to get to where you want to be all the time.

Do I need somewhere with good road links?

Do you drive? If you do, you may find that you need to live somewhere that has more road links.  For example, if you work in a different city, living near good motorway links can help to reduce your driving and save you time.

Is the area safe?

You may also want to look up the safety of any given area you’re considering living in. There are generally plenty of reports on crime rates and the nature of crimes committed in the area that you can look into. Alternatively, you can just check if there are any recent serious news reports associated with the area.

There really is a lot to think about when it comes to buying a home. Sure, it may feel like a long and drawn out process. But considering this is the biggest investment you’re likely to make in your life, it’s more than worth it!

Traveling With Your Pet? Six Tips That’ll Help

If you’re planning on traveling with your pet, consider the tips mentioned above to ensure a comfortable and trouble-free trip…
CONTINUE READING >>

Planning a trip as a pet parent can be highly stressful since you don’t really know who to trust with your little furry baby. And hiring a pet-sitter can add more layers of anxiety. Even when you find a person you can trust, they will still not care for your pet as you would. It may lead to the dilemma of whether or not a trip is even worth it if your pet is not with you to enjoy it. Alternatively, research also shows that CBD products can help calm pets.

Many people cancel or postpone their trips because of this panic. Even though it is rational to worry about your pet, traveling with it is not impossible. With the increasing number of people owning pets, the consumer market is changing to cater to the needs of pet parents. American Pet Product Association (APPA) found out in surveys of 2019-2020 that 67 percent of the families in the USA own a pet, which has led to the traveling and hoteling industries adapting to accommodate this demographic. Therefore, now instead of worrying about their little furry friends, people can travel with it and make their trip more memorable, especially family vacations. That said, listed below are a few tips that will help you if you’re traveling with your pet.

Look for pet-friendly accommodation

When you finally decide to take your pet with you on a trip, you must provide it with suitable accommodation. Therefore, you must choose a place to stay that covers all the needs of your pet. Additionally, it is better to book in advance than having the hotel refuse to let your pet stay when you arrive. You may look up hotels in the vicinity of the destination you plan on visiting. For example, if you’re planning a hiking trip to the Great Smoky Mountains with your dog, look up pet friendly cabins Gatlinburg on the internet to identify the best options. Pet friendly hotels and resorts acknowledge that your pet is important to you and ensure that both you and the animal have a pleasant stay.

Pack your pet’s favorite toys

Boredom is not exclusive to humans only. Even animals tend to get bored, especially when they don’t get the attention they crave. So, it is better to pack a few pet toys for the trip. You may even buy one or two travel-friendly toys for your pet that will keep them entertained. If you’re leaving your pet in the hotel, pay with it when you return from your engagements.

Do not leave your pet alone in the car

No matter what, never leave your pet alone in a rented car or cab when you’re out on the road. Even if it is just for a few minutes, it can prove to be fatal for your pet. Especially in the summer months, it is dangerous to lock your pet inside the car because of the heat. Moreover, someone might harm or steal it while you’re inattentive. SO be on your guard and ensure you have a leash tied to it.

Keep them hydrated

While traveling, the chances of dehydration increase for the pet. This is because of a lack of access to a water bowl. Therefore, you must put in extra effort to keep your pet hydrated. You could pack a water bowl in your luggage and carry it around with you in a bag when you take your pet outside of the hotel. And if that isn’t an option on the table, you must take water breaks for the pet when you find open water fit for drinking. You could also try feeding it moist pet food since the water content will help it stay hydrated.

Be prepared to track your pet if it gets lost

It is always a good idea to be ready for any emergency when traveling. In the case of traveling with a pet, be prepared for when it gets lost. In case you are traveling with a pet, be ready to handle pet emergencies. While traveling to a new place, your pet may get lost because of its innate sense of curiosity. Therefore, always have a leash on when in the outdoors. Also, attach a microchip to their collar for easy tracking. If that is an unaffordable option, write essential information such as your contact number and where you’re staying on the collar. In case something terrible happens, someone might reach out to you.

Book an appointment with a vet

Although we’re mentioning this last on the list, consider doing this first. Before the trip, book an appointment with your vet. It is mandatory to avoid any future inconveniences. If the vet detects any health problems, you may have to make adjustments to your itinerary. For example, buying and packing appropriate medication for the pet. You may also have to postpone your trip or get a pet-sitter if there is any severe issue. After all, nothing may be more important than the well-being of your furry buddy.

Conclusion

Owning a pet is not just a hobby. It is a responsibility that one takes for the entire lifetime of the pet. And because more people are now keeping pets, commercial industries such as tourism are now adapting to accommodate these additional little guests. So, if you’re planning on traveling with yours, consider the tips mentioned above to ensure a comfortable and trouble-free trip. Check-in with a vet before finalizing the rest of your itinerary, book a pet friendly hotel, keep toys and water bowl, and take measures to ensure it doesn’t get lost in uncharted territories.

Heading Abroad in a Post-Covid World? Don’t Forget these Travel Essentials!

Remember when travelling seemed so simple? Travellers who are excited to jump on a plane and enjoy exploring the world once again may find the travelling experience a little different to how they remembered it post-covid.

With tests and quarantines to consider, as well as traditional pre-flight security checks, baggage requirements and airport transfers, it’s a miracle any of us get on a plane without forgetting about something! Travelling is usually a stressful experience, no matter how excited you are about reaching your destination. Therefore, some forward planning can help keep stress and worry to a minimum. In this post, we’ll explore the travel essentials everyone should bring in a post-covid world, read on to find out more.

Travel Insurance

Travelling overseas shouldn’t mean taking a risk, and while many people believe that travel insurance is a waste of money, in reality, no one should be travelling without it. UHC Travel insurance ensures you and your loved ones are covered in the event of a medical emergency abroad and in an event where an evacuation is required. The last thing you need is to be stuck and completely stranded thousands of miles away from home, with mounting medical bills and problems with your treatments. Buying this kind of travel protection means you can enjoy your holiday, safe in the knowledge that if you or one of your party falls ill, has an accident or you need to be evacuated from the country quickly, this is all taken care of. Don’t risk your holiday – ensure you have travel insurance in place before you travel.

Masks and Hand Sanitiser

Flyers are currently required to wear face coverings when flying on planes and in airports. So, it’s worthwhile taking multiple masks to ensure their longevity and efficacy, especially on those long haul flights. You may also prefer to wear a face-covering in the airport, in taxis or on other methods of public transport. Using hand sanitiser regularly can help keep covid and other germs and bacteria at bay!

A Valid Passport

It’s easy to think that you don’t need reminding about your passport. However, a staggering number of fliers reach the airport before realising that their documents are out of date – throwing their entire holiday into chaos. Ideally, you should be checking the expiry date on your passports before you book your flights, as some countries won’t allow you to enter if you have less than six months left on your current passport.

Emergency Numbers

Do you know the emergency numbers of the country you’re visiting? For the USA, it’s 911, but what about mainland Europe, or the Far East? Arming yourself with this kind of knowledge will help keep you and your family safe whilst you travel overseas.

Your Prescriptions

If you’re currently taking medications, then not only should you take your medicines, but a copy of your prescription also. If you need medical assistance or run out of your medication, you’re more likely to find what you need at a local pharmacy.

Final Thoughts…

Travelling successfully takes time and careful planning. Don’t leave home without these helpful additions!

Taking Your Business With Your When You Fly The Nest

Taking your business with you when you travel the world is a challenge, but you can make it work if you follow these tips… CONTINUE READING >>

If you want to leave home behind and travel the world full-time, you need to make some big decisions about your lifestyle. This is a big problem for business owners that are fed up with their 9 to 5 and want to see the world. Do you just sell the business and find another way to make money while you travel or do you give up on your travel dreams and stick with the business?

What if you could do both? If you love running your business but you also have dreams of traveling the world, you’re in luck. Modern technology makes it possible to run your company from anywhere in the world, so you can take the business with you. However, there will be a lot of extra challenges along the way, so you shouldn’t dive into things without thinking about it. If you want to take your business with you when you travel the world, here are some great tips to keep in mind.

Make Sure That It’s The Right Time

Many business owners assume that it’s always the right time to leave. However, if you don’t have a lot of cash saved up and you aren’t getting any ideas on how to grow your company, you might not want to jump ship just yet. Make sure that you’re in a good position financially and that there is growth potential for your business before deciding to take things on the road with you.

If you make the move at the wrong time when your business is already struggling, it will only make it harder to keep things afloat. But if the business is in a strong position, it’s easy to keep things ticking over.

Do A Trial Run

Before you think about taking your business with you when you travel, try out a trial run. Take a few weeks or months off and see how easy it is to run the business remotely. If it’s still running okay without you there all the time, then there’s no reason not to continue your travels.

But if things don’t go well, you need to have a rethink and make some changes to the business before you head off.

Put A Trustworthy Management Team In Place

If you want to travel the world, you need to know that your business is in good hands. This means putting together a management team that will help things run smoothly while you’re away.

However, it isn’t just about finding people who can take on your duties for you. You need to choose people who are capable of making good decisions for the business and improving it as well as following your instructions to a T. You want to be able to enjoy your travels without worrying about the state of the business, so hire managers that you trust before you leave.

Outsource Important Areas Of The Business

If you want to travel the world and take your business with you, you can’t do everything yourself. You need to focus on the overall decision making and let other people handle the rest.

Outsourcing is a great solution here because you get access to an expert team for a fraction of the cost. Hiring a digital marketing agency, for example, will ensure that you are always attracting new customers and strengthening your brand, even while you are away. Outsourced accounting services can make sure that you are on top of your finances. By outsourcing certain areas of the business, you can manage your workload a lot easier.
